The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

No. You will die if you drink water.

It's important to keep yourself hydrated while working out, so yes.

Are you joking? Rule of thumb (as of what I have been told): A gallon a day and more is okay.

Shall we say dehydrated. Drink more water then you think you should.
Do people drink water while running? Cycling? Jogging? Walking? You bet they do. Why would weightlifting be any different? It's not.

Then drink. What makes you think it could be bad? I mean...it's water. It's like asking if eating food is bad if you're hungry.

I remember elementary school, when dinosaurs roamed the earth... we were forbidden to drink water until the end of gym class.

If you're that thirsty while you're working out, you need to be drinking a lot more during the day. You shouldn't have to "drink a crapload" between sets. Try to get in a gallon of water outside of your workout.

I remember in high school our track coach gave us ice cubes during the water breaks. Cruelty at its finest.

Drinking water throughout your workout is fine. But drinking a crapload of water between each and every set may give you a stomach ache. The stomach ache is the only thing that that would be a concern, but nothing is wrong with water. Staying hydrated is important.

The colder the water the better. I freeze half of a liter bottle then top it off with room temp. By the time I get to the gym it's ice cold. By the end of my workout it's all melted - and it's gone. Given that the AC has been busted on the level I work out on (Texas in August) cold water is not just a luxury - it's a necessity.

It's just water. I don't get it lol. It is like asking if you should breathe a lot.

Breathing is an essential part of working out.

I don't like extremely cold water because I can't down it as fast as water that's a little less cool. It's almost on par with a brain freeze.
