    getting bigger shoulders without getting bigger neck?

    Hi all,

    I'm trying to my shoulders broader by doing deltoid exercises, but the neck muscle gets thicker as well when I do this. I don't want a thicker neck, since this would make my shoulders appear less broad.

    Could anyone give me some tips on deltoid exercises that won't bulk up my neck as well? If so, I'd be grateful.

    When you train your shoulders your neck only gets hit in the slightest while doing pressing movements.

    I've been shoulder pressing, shruging and hammering my shoulders for quite a few years now and my neck hasnt got any bigger.

    DB Press
    Upright rows
    Lateral Raises

    i do them in a different order but thats what i do and my neck is just the same. Delts are commin on nicely and i am quite broad...

    in my own world
    heavy shrugs/dl's/neck flex with one of those head harnesses.... combined with lots of food = big neck

    I have always found that my neck/traps play a major part in the shoulder press, and grow accordingly.

    heh consider yourself lucky man....if been trying for years to get a bigger neck....but it seems like the more neck i do....the bigger my shoulders get...and the more shoulders i do....the bigger my shoulders get....ive got these monterous shoulders and no neck.....sometimes i just think it has something to do with genes......who knows...

    I know when i was in high school we actually had a 4-way neck machine. That thing would definately get your neck big, i have yet to see one at my gym though. The reason we had it at school is because it was necessary to have some meat on your neck to support your football helmet and also to make sure no on snaps your neck
