The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

how much protein can the body absorb at once?

A while back I was taking about 75 grams of whey isolate at once, then I read that the body can only absorb about ~25-30 grams at once, so I am assuming I was just pissing away my money

But, in the article here on wannabebig it does say that there is some research that shows that the body can take in more. So my question is, what is true? Is it worth taking any more than 25grams of protein at once? And if this 25g thing is true, whats the value of eating a 40g protein chicken breast if you can only absorb 25g of it? Thanks, Michael

I have heard about 40-45 grams per meal. Not sure if it is true though. Just take a look at pro bodybuilders. They consumer upwards of 100 grams per meal.

The body is extremely efficient and will process just about everything you give it. All of that protein will be absorbed. The real question is - how much will be used for muscle building?

Now that's a completely different story but it really has not much to do with how much protein you're getting in one sitting but with overall protein intake.

I am not expecting an answer - I doubt anyone knows - just thought it necessary to make the distinction.

The type would be a main factor as well. Go with a casein or whey/casein blend source.

Also there are several threads on this exact topic which may prove to be worthwhile reads..

The studies on nitrogen balance that led to the 1 gr per pound of lean body mass rule of thumb are probably the best answer we'll get.

Your body will keep using as much protein as it possibly needs, so there is no limit, only what your body takes in. Every cell in you body needs protein, and will continually use it.

You should be getting about 1 gram of protein for every pound of body weight (as discussed). You don't need to get all hardcore on the protein, just take what you need. Too much can give you kidney problems and whatnot later on.
