When doing deads do you guys have the bar actually contacting your shins on the way up, or do you just keep it as close as you can without touching?
I've been doing them with the bar contacting the shins, but it scrapes them up pretty bad. I don't mind the scraping, but it's a public barbell that I'm using now, so it's not really appropriate to be bleeding on it.
Is there a significant difference in the ammount I'd be able to lift without contact? Are there any tricks to keeping contact without scraping the skin?
Also: for martial artists, if you dead with contact to the shin, do you find it has any positive or negative effect on shin conditioning?
