    What cardio machine works best for you in terms of fat loss?

    A good hour on which of these machines works best for you??

    I would say the Olyptical machine, I think thats how it is spelled. But if you last an hour, than WOW. LOL. I usually get a good 100 cal. burn on it in about 10 min. or less.

    if your exercising at the same heart rate and for the same amount of time there shouldn't be any difference in what machine you use.

    (I'm assuming)

    Can you really trust the "cal-reading" on the machines or is there another way to work it out. What is your normal heartrate for burning fat the most effective. I am quite new in the whole cardio training thing.

    no, but they are good enough to get a ballpark. The ones that take into account your height/weight/age/gender/heart rate/etc will be more accurate

    The body does burn a higher percentage of calories from fat when involved in lower intensity cardio exercise. BUT, at higher intensities, you burn a greater number of overall calories which is what you should be concerned about when trying to lose weight.

    how do you know what your maximum heart rate is?

    The most time-honored method for determining maximum heart rate is for men to subtract their age from 220 and for women to subtract their age from 226.

    Keep in mind that this formula gives you only an estimate.
    Your true max may be as many as 15 beats higher or lower.
    Also, this formula is used for activities during which your feet hit the ground. (To estimate your max for bicycling, subtract about 5 beats from the final result; for swimming, subtract about 10 beats.)

    Here's the math for a 20-year-old man:
    220 20 = 200
    This is his estimated maximum heart rate.

    Of them all, I have always read that the treadmill will burn the most calories, then I'd say the cross-country or ellyptical, then stepper, then bike. But intense weight training will burn more than any of these by a fair margin.

    Treadmill will involve the whole body, and you are supporting your full weight, this is better for burning cals, but if you're a big guy, the ellyptical may be more advantageous simply because there is less wear and tear on your knees and ankles, since there is no impact.

    I know that the heavier I am, the harder it is to use a treadmill, mostly because my calves take too much of the brunt of my weight and get extremely sore and start to cramp up. I'm sure its not too great for my knees either. I've always preferred the elliptical machine.

    For some reason, jogging on actual land always worked best. When I lived in Pacifica I'd jog a mile in the fog every morning almost without fail and it was probably the healthiest (though not biggest muscularly) I've ever been.

    So I'd say jogging on land, in the actual air, listening to radical right wing radio, in the fog, burns the most calories.

    I lose about 100 cals per 6min's on a cross trainer but only lose like 50 cals on a treadmill, and the treadmill is much harder

    I like them all. I rotate from the stair climber to the treadmill to the bike. I will occasionally throw in the elliptical but most of the time they are all being used.

    I like the stair climber because it works the hell out of my calves on top of the cardio benefits.

    Jogging on actual land beats everything in cal burning plus its a great exercise for the whole body. But if its not convenient or you have joint/weight or other probs, every machine like geoffgarcia said is pretty much the same if you train at equal intensity and duration

    An cardio exercise that requires you to move your body (land running vs treadmill, real cycling vs stationary bike, real steps vs stair stepper) is better than any machine, IMO. I feel so much more spent when doing the real thing than doing it on a machine. Moving your body weight is tough (well for me it is, since I'm a fat bastard).
