how many of you do front squats instead of back squats?

    so ya...

I just feel I can prevent myself from leaning to far forward while doing front squats due to having long legs... not to mention I feel more of an emphasis on the quads using them... they are just uncomfortable on the shoulders.

Never tried a front squat. I have to hold the weight way low on my shoulders (lower than most) to keep good balance during my squats. Whatever gets the job done right?

I do front squats. I have to squat cage so can't get the weight in place for a rear-squat. Also, with the front squat I can do it without bending over so far, as the weight isn't trying to tip me over backwards as with a normal squat. Also it's not as much strain on my lower back or shoulders.

I have done both and I like back squats better. Some of the problems people have with back squats and stability I think are bar placement and ankle flexibility. Having the bar too high on your back will cause you to lean forward. Having it sit on you rear delts will help with this. Once I started doing this, I never feel like I'm going to fall in any direction, other than straight down!

Ankle flexibility is more important when doing back than front, IMO. I feel that doing heavy seat calf raises (with a full ROM) have helped me a tremendous amount.
