The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

advice on alien traps and a thick back

Ok, since i have been doing traps I have been noticing some results. Same thing with back, but not as much as traps. Now i was wondering, today i did a barbell shrug with 355x7 2 second holds at top then down and repeat until i rep 7. Now i moved to dumbells and went up to 130lbx8 rep (highest the gyms dumbells can go) and i felt that hit them better and dam did they stand out more than when i did the barbell. Now in all your guys eyes which builds the traps more the barbell or the dumbell. And since i maxed myself out on the gyms dumbells, is there a sustitute that i could make as a dumbell for the traps, i could have easily shrugged 150lb dumbells it felt like, 130 were pretty easy.

i think i covered that all, now onto the back. Does the back grow fast or is it stubborn and really need to be hit hard?.

Iv been doing dumbell rows. I start out with the dumbell in front of me and pull it back and up towards my hip. I can do about 90lbx6. I do lat pulldowns, but im not really seeing results that i would think i would get from it. I am doing the front lat pulldown backon a TINY angle and i pull the bar to my chest. Most of the time if i do see results within a couple months i get lazy at that machine, cause well ya, i dont see no major gains.

I left out a few excersizes for the back so I am not just doing that.

But i was just wondering do these muscles TAKE a long time to really stick out? or am i missing out on something. My cals i shoot for 3000 a day and around 200g ofprotein

I think that most people would agree that chins/pullup are more effective than lat pulldown, so perhaps start doing chins instead. Also go hard at the deads.

Tossup. Do barbell first for a nice couple sets with higher total weight, use straps if necessary, then switch to dbs for hammer grip shrugs. They're more natural and might be more effective, but both will be better than one or the other.

Genetics play a big role, but for the most part, with enough work, your back can get gigantic. I've seen your pics, you might want to ask you dad (if he did any bodybuilding) how easy his back was to develop.

Db rows work different parts of your back that don't get as big as your lats can. My suggestion, do as many sets of chinups/pullups as you possibly can before you get on the lat pulldown station. If your back isn't tremendously weak after that, do some db pullovers and your lats will be noticably bigger in a couple weeks. Don't leave out the rows though.

im SLOWLY gettin into deads. i didnt do any today cause yesterday i kinda over stretched my lower back, so now its a little bit sore. For all those that follow, iv been dealing with lower back probs for prob past 4-5months. last time i did deads was 2 weeks ago at i think 175x10 and that was getting to heavy for my lower back.

if anyone else agrees with u stack, then ill be switching up to pullups/chinups

    Do both.

They're similar enough that you only need to do one or the other. Or both. But keep total sets/reps about the same as any other motion.

Just make sure you've got pullups/chins, some horizontal rowing motion, some trap work, and lower back.

Yea what this guy said. :withstupi
I would do at least a couple good sets of chins and do pulldowns to lat overload after. More than one kind of lat exercise will make them explode. And if you think they've still got juice after that, I'm now a big fan of db pullovers. Great for after your lats are already good and worked. Your back needs love. Give it all you got.
