The store where I got it had their sh*t together pretty well, so my wait was only about 25 minutes. I didn't even really get there early or anything.
My first impression was that I didn't like it quite as much as the original. Between the different shield system and the different jump, it feels really foreign. I feel like some aspects got a little oversimplified (no fall damage, no health, etc.), and the dual wield takes some getting used to (and then it does in fact /pwn all).
I've given it most of the day, and I like it now. I'm having a good time with the campaign (no spoilers, but I sure am glad that I got to do that thing that I wanted to do- around level 5 or so ) and the bit of multiplayer that I've played with my bro was pretty fun. It feels different though- it plays like a combination of the original Halo and Perfect Dark for the good ol' 64. The levels definitely are a change, much bigger, more open, and generally cool- it plays almost like some war games that I've played, with snipers hiding and stuff like that.
I was a little sad about the loss of the awesomeness of the pistol, but the carbine is pretty similar. I've found that the old pistol/shotgun combo is no longer the dominating weapon combo- I like the dual wielded needler/SMG combo for pretty serious ownage.
Anyway, at this point, I'm really digging it, even though it's really different from the old one.
I give it 9 thumbs out of 10, as of now.
While leaving the mall last night my girlfriend and I discussed how queer it was that people were waiting all night in there. I just don't understand how someone can be that impatient.

lol like my dad when windows ME first came out, he was at the store at midnight waiting for it. and ME SUCKS!!!
i personally thought halo single player sucked maybe im a ******? but the multiplayer is basically the sweetest thing ever.. me and some friends would link 4 xboxes and play all night long it was pretty cool..
yah i don't see how ppl can wait in line for a video game.. but that's not as bad as those dummies who wait overnight to see star wars.. a movie that is good but u'll only be watching it for 2 hours or so.. why wait 12 hours and only get 2 hours of enjoyment time?

I only waited in like for about 25 minutes or so. Like DenimDemon I had my doubts when I first starting playing it but after I got the hang of it I think its the ****. Me and some friends played it after school today. We linked 2 xbox's together and all I have to say is wow. Its so much more fast paced then the original, its great. I'm sure we'll be at it again tomarrow afternoon. It sucks cuz I dont have Xbox Live and thats where it would truly show it true colors. But ya its definately all I could have asked for and more.

I think it's good but overrated, since the impressivness of Chronicles Of Riddick-Escape from Butchers bay, all first person shooters on console seem lame.
Just got a new PC and have been playing Doom 3, so I had been considering not even picking it up. But I had a copy reserved and the reviews were so good, I decided to buy it after all. Graphics are sorta disappointing compared to Doom 3, but the dual wielding is very cool. And the gameplay is much more fun.
Definitely worth buying.
We tend to think of Sisyphus as a tragic hero, condemned by the gods to shoulder his rock sweatily up the mountain, and again up the mountain, forever. The truth is that Sisyphus is in love with the rock. He cherishes every roughness and every ounce of it. He talks to it, sings to it. It has become the mysterious Other. He even dreams of it as he sleepwalks upward. Life is unimaginable without it, looming always above him like a huge gray moon. He doesnít realize that at any moment he is permitted to step aside, let the rock hurtle to the bottom, and go home.
