Just before I hit the "wall".

    Hi,

I've hit the wall of sorts.....

I've generally always been in pretty good shape. When I was younger I was an avid runner. That gave way to weightlifting as it was more fun than running.

During my during my mid 20's I was just short of weighing in at 200lbs. @ about 9% BF....and I sorta hit a wall. Not a growth wall mind you.....it's mental and chemical.

I remember leaving the gym 3 and sometimes 4 days a week feeling....uh..."dirty"....
The harder I worked the "dirtier" I felt after I was done. It got to the point that I wouldn't go to the gym anymore because of that feeling. ...it freaks me out. I don't even go to the gym anymore because I don't want to feel "that" way again.

Now I'm 15lbs. overweight and I hate the way that I look and feel and I'm ready to get back to lifting again.

The current problem is that I still don't want to go to the gym, work out, and have that same feeling....

I'm hoping that someone has had this same uh..."feeling" and knows what I'm talking about and how to deal with it. I would be more specific about it, but, this is a clean forum and I don't want to violate the rules.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

I have no idea what you are referring to with the word "dirty" Please specify.

Are you saying you have a fear of germs or is it something sexual

i don't understand at all....If by "dirty" you mean disgusting.... being fat, lazy and obese and not doing anything about it is much more disgusting than getting a little sweaty and challenging your body.

He's either talking about steroid use, narcotics, or some kinda freaky porn.

Ok....let me be a little more specific. I don't know it this will get me banned or not.....but, it's the only thing that I've found that feels the same....:sigh:

...exactly like how you feel after you get done masturbating out of pure boredom......now do you have an idea?

....I've always lifted clean...no drugs. I pride myself on that.

The best thing that I can come up with is that after I'm all psyched up and pumped up, that my body is coming down...I just don't know how else to describe it.

...on second thought....might I be coming off an adrenaline or endorphine rush?

    ...and yes....I'm 100% serious....

I think I get what you are saying. Are you saying that you just feel tired as hell when you try and lift? I am sure that it is a medical disorder.

I dont think thats what he is trying to say. He says he feels 'dirty' after lifting. I have never heard of anything like that happening before, but hopefully some of the other members will be able to help you out.

    Dang...I wish

My energy levels are(were...) fine after working out...after about 30min for recooperation anyhow.

It feels like I'm chemically unbalanced at the time. I generally feel(felt) normal again after about an hour or so.

I've only met a couple of people(three to be exact...) that have ever had the same problem. One happened to be a powerlifter that I used to work out with on a regular basis while I was serving in the Navy.

I'm going to see a sports doc about this and my wrists and left knee before I get back into the gym. I want to know what the heck this is and how to prevent it.

I'll update this after I get back from the doc....probably in the next couple of weeks, depending on the overtime schedule that they put up at work.

Thanks to all who have replied.

If anyone might have gone through the same thing or might have an idea, please don't be afraid to bump this thread.

    ....and I'm StillWorkingOnIt.

isnt there a depression disorder that has to do with that stuff between your nerve endings? doesnt lifting put high stress on your nervous system? In this case a person with a moderate(maybe even unoticed) form of depression would notice the effects of lifting on the nervous system much more than a chemically balanced person...... Not that I know much..... just a thought

    Signs of depression:
    #
    You feel miserable and sad.
    #
You feel exhausted a lot of the time with no energy .
    #
You feel as if even the smallest tasks are sometimes impossible.
    #
You seldom enjoy the things that you used to enjoy-you may be off sex or food or may 'comfort eat' to excess.
    #
    You feel very anxious sometimes.
    #
You don't want to see people or are scared to be left alone. Social activity may feel hard or impossible.
    #
You find it difficult to think clearly.
    #
You feel like a failure and/or feel guilty a lot of the time.
    #
You feel a burden to others.
    #
You sometimes feel that life isn't worth living.
    #
You can see no future. There is a loss of hope. You feel all you've ever done is make mistakes and that's all that you ever will do.
    #
You feel irritable or angry more than usual.
    #
You feel you have no confidence.
    #
You spend a lot of time thinking about what has gone wrong, what will go wrong or what is wrong about yourself as a person. You may also feel guilty sometimes about being critical of others (or even thinking critically about them).
    #
You feel that life is unfair.
    #
You have difficulty sleeping or wake up very early in the morning and can't sleep again. You seem to dream all night long and sometimes have disturbing dreams.
    #
You feel that life has/is 'passing you by.'
    #
You may have physical aches and pains which appear to have no physical cause, such as back pain.

I would say If experience any of these intensly after lifting you should see a doc
