The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Warm up for PR attempt

    Hello all,

I have plans on attempting a couple maximum effort lifts before the new year. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to warm up your body parts to get the optimal lift without making the associated muscle fatigue. I hope that makes sense to someone

    For example:
    Bench Press.
    should I do 2 sets at 50%
    1 set at 75%
    1 set at 90%
    then go for it.
    ???

    Thanks

The last one at 90% might impeed you. MIGHT. it really depends on you. But I'd think that doing it at 90% could really hurt you.

feel free to aim me, nejar462 im on a lot. Don't know much to warn you dudes, but im good at conversations.

A lot of it depends on the amount of total weight being lifted. IMO, the higher the weight, the more warmups needed. I'm assuming you are talking about a 1 rep max, so here is an example of how I deadlifted the other day when I hit a new PR:

    95x2, 135x2, 185x1, 225x1, 275x1, 315x1, 335x1, 355x1, 375x1!

Now, I do not believe you need to do a ton of reps to ready yourself. after all you are only performing 1 rep for your max. Just make sure you slowly jump up in weight and are somewhat near the max before you hit it. Next week I will most likely try 385 and will just remove the 375 and perhaps the 355 sets. Just remember, the lower the weight being attemted, the smaller the increments of the warmups. Hope that helps.

    Thanks for the replies!

Wow, that seems to be a tonne of warm-ups.

I have never done a 1 rep max in anything.

I am planning on attempting to bench 315 for my PR.

So Latman, you are saying to start really, really light! Then slowly increment the weight from there, by what seems to be close to 10% of the target weight.

    I can't weight for 3 plates! yeehaw

    Thanks again!

LOL. I lift at home buddy! Nobody lifts near the power rack in most gyms anyway.

Good luck with the 315 on bench! That's a nice lift!

What's wrong with gettin your cardio in between sets. I always considered it cross training.

I usually only do two-three warmups sets.
