Holidays and family!! Good or bad??

How many of you like having the relatives over for the holidays? or visiting them? I must admit this past Thanksgiving was the most peaceful relaxing Holiday I've had since I was a kid !! My husband said "Please hunny lets not invite anyone this year". I did feel some what guilty about not inviting my parents but OMG !! how wonderful it was!! Do you think it's selfish of us because they drive us crazy?

I personally believe in selfish lifestyles.

as for the question itself, I select which holidays/ family functions to attend by who is going to be there. there are certainly some family members who i cant stand to be around. If there is a negative stressor, simply remove that source of stress, its easy!

this year we invited my parents, my brother and his gf over, and all was well. i could have gone over to annoying relatives, but screw it. it was my 4 day weekend to relax, why ruin it with *******s?

agreed, a few years ago MrsWebb and I got tired of all the invites to peoples homes, so we ran away for Thanksgiving. we went to Reno for the night before, then stayed in a cottage in Tahoe on the lake for Thanksgiving. dinner consisted of gas station snacks and mcdonalds cheeseburgers. it was classic.

Wow, I'm the opposite. A holiday just isn't a holiday unless it's spent with family. To me that is the greatest thing I look forward to.

"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

Thanksgiving last year was in a hotel in Boston with my wife..we didn't go away solely for that purpose, but it was nice..I had authentic clam chowder and a crab-cake sandwich, and it was fantastic..not the same old turkey and stuffing...

This year I did look forward to seeing my brother, who had been away at college, so I was glad to have family over..and annoying family didn't show up till late, and left after a couple hours..so it was all good

i hate getting together with relatives.. sometimes even family.
repeated questions that relate to my future are constantly thrown at me... i hate being asked these questions. I have some really outstanding cousins.. all of them are great students.. i'm one of the younger ones.. so they all feel like they need to give me advice... PLUS..
grade wise i am the worst my family has produced yet.. so yea.. every holiday.. i try to dodge those questions.. but it never works.. and i just end up feelin ****ty..

Meh, I like some of my family, not so much other parts.

However, most of my family is generally more f*cked up than I am (I know! Who'da thought?), so even when I see the ones I don't like, I get a good laugh. But I love them anyway. Bastards.
