The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Cool, Stump. Whenever my new Centurion starts to stretch out and become less helpful, I may look into a Metal suit.

    Comments:
Excellent workout. Everything felt very strong today. The 455 for 3x3 on deads was tough, but I did it. That's 40 lbs more than I was doing for 3x3 in my last training cycle. I think with some good rest and in my new Centurion suit I could be good for a 535 DL right now, maybe even 540.

Lynn and I are going to a Halloween party tonight up in Chicago. I'm going to be Tyler Durden (I've got the jacket and the sunglasses) and Lynn's going to be a giant inflatable pumpkin (hilarious). Can't wait.

Everyone have an early Happy Halloween!

Heh. The Tyler outfit was cool, but not that many people knew who he was. Too many old people there. Lynn was hilarious in her inflatable pumpkin costume, though.

Catch? I'm not following. I just pull the bar up off the floor and over my head in one quick, smooth motion. It's all in the leg drive, explosiveness, and the dip under the bar.

    Might do some tonight

    Comments:
Good squat workout. All of my squats were good depth and were with good form. I'm feeling very confident in that my 13" box squats are now almost equal to what my 14" box squats were a couple months ago. That means I'm pushing up the same weight but am able to go an inch deeper, giving me some safety margin in any PL meets I might want to do.

Lynn hasn't been feeling that well the past couple days, so her squat workout was off. She was a bit mad because of it. I got us a pizza last night since that was what she wanted to try to cheer her up, and also looked for a pumpkin so we might do some last minute pumpkin carving for Halloween, but I couldn't find any pumpkins! Apparently, none of the grocery stores sell pumpkins anymore. What's up with that?

I'm sitting at home moping about my job situation, and then I come in here and see your latest journal entry. You have inspired me to squat today. I figure that a good squat should take my mind off things, or at least leave me too exhausted to care, LOL.

Awesome. It always feels good to know that you've inspired someone, even if you've inspired them to inflict pain on themselves! That rocks.

I went back to a routine I did before I did the Summer Bash meet in June. I made some huge gains before that meet and it was probably the best results with any training program I've gotten to date. So this is somewhat of a linear periodization type program and it's working. I'm feeling strong each week and I hope that I peak at the end and set some huge new PR's!

Thanks for the comments as always, Coke and Kev.

    Comments:
Good overall workout. I got in the bench shirt again after a 6 week absence and it felt pretty good. The 345x3 on 3 boards felt easy and the 375 on 2 board was, too. The 395 was tougher but still not that bad. I think over the next few weeks I'll be using the shirt more and will try to break past that 400lb barrier that I've been so close to. I think the raw benching improvement might get me over the hump. Oh yeah, the dips felt REALLY good last night. I felt like I could have done another few sets of them, but I didn't want to overdo it. Surprisingly, they're not that sore today, though.

I can't wait for the next few weeks because we're finally starting to get into the heavier workouts!

In other news, the Illini started exhibition basketball season with a big win despite not even playing 2 of their best players. Illini hockey in 10-0 and I may go see a game tomorrow night. The Bulls lost to Orlando. And I can't wait for the Bears to play this weekend and destroy Miami.
