The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Comments:
Not a bad w/o at all. I decided I should train in my suit a little bit just to make sure I get the feel of it, so I wore it for all my deadlift lifts. It feels strange, especially on the lighter weights, because there is a tendency to want to lift more with your back and not use the legs as much. I did my first couple sets with the straps down, and then when it got heavier I put them up. I wish I'd brought baby poweder though, because on my last two heavy singles the bar was sticking to my legs on the way up, making it very difficult to lock out. I'll bring it next time. I tried lat pulldowns again because I hadn't done them in a long time and because a group of guys were monopolizing the pullup bars. I couldn't believe how much I improved on that. A good 45 lbs! Perhaps I'll be doing the whole stack in the semi-near future. :evillaugh

Oh yeah, in case you didn't notice, I'm 28 now. Yes, I'm twice as old as some people on this board.

Oh yeah, man. I always do the BB rows after deadlift. Deads don't usually work the lats too much.

The bike riding isn't really a gas saving scheme. It just happened that Sunday was football game and the gym is located right next to the stadium, so parking is a beeyotch!

I hope so, man. Right now I'm alternating volume sessions with heavy sessions on deads, so we'll see in two weeks if I can set another gym PR.

The workout felt really good. Just the right level of intensity and exhiliration afterwards. I'm feeling good on my squats. I wonder if I went back to wide stance if I might break my old PR (back when my form was less than stellar)? Calves seem to have no limits on how long they can keep gaining strength. I don't mind Lynn and I went to our friend Joyce's for dinner and I helped set up her DVD player/VCR. The reward was we all got to watch another Family Guy DVD. I'm addicted to that show! It's freakin' sweet. Giggity giggity gi-ga-dee.

Very nice leg work. Might I ask, what's the reasoning behind doing close stance squats?

I'm trying to focus on improving my deadlift so I figure I should do my squats with close to the same stance I use for my deads.

    Benchy Churchy

    Workout:
    repsXweight
    bold #'s in () = PR

    Flat BB Bench All RAW
    10x135 WU
    5x185
    3x225
1x250 Tied my PR. It was easier this time.

    3x265 3 board (+10)
    3x255 2 board
    2x245 1 board
    10x185 Cooldown

    DB Incline Press
3x90's Wow. Those board presses KILLED me.
    6x80's

Pec Deck (New!) Hadn't done this in like a year.
    8x175
    5x190
    8x160

    Abs
    None

    Cardio:
    Are you freaking kidding?

    Other:
    Stretching

    Comments:
Man. That was the heaviest raw bench workout I've done in a long time. Probably ever. I tied my PR, but I think if I had tried it I would have gotten 255. So then I decided to do some heavy board presses. Wow, that REALLY killed my tri's. I surprised myself, though, with my lockout strength on those. The last time I did raw board presses I think I only did 255 on a 3 board and only twice, whereas I did 265 for three today. THose killed me so much that I had nothing left for inclines. The 90's felt super heavy so I could only manage 3, as opposed to the 6-8 I would do normally. I probably should have called it a day after the flat bench stuff. For ****s and giggles I tried the pec deck machine (yes, I know it's for girlymen), which I hadn't used in over a year. I think the last tie I had done it I was doing 130lbs, and I managed a set with 190 this time. Dayamn. What a difference a year and 50 lbs makes.

BTW, Lynn was not feeling well today at all. Her throat hurt this morning and by afternoon she couldn't even talk as it hurt too much. I had to cook her some plain pasta as her stomach was hurting, too, and she felt like she could only eat bland food. Don't know where she got it from, but I hope I don't get it!
