    Beginner vs. intermediate

I was just curious as to how these classifications work. If someone had been working out for 1 year then stop for a couple and then go back into the gym, what level would he be considered? Do you guys suggest someone getting back into the gym to not go as intensely in the beginning in order to get acclamatted to doing weights again? How long should this go for? What type of routine (split, sets, reps, failure) should a beginner do vs. an intermediate bodybuilder? Thanks
