I would say that is normal when lifting heavy.

My hands turn purple when doing DB shrugs because my grip is so tight.

It's most likely increased blood pressure, same reason why I look tan when I train even though i'm an eskimo.

I get great big purple splotches all over my delts every single time I train them. I'm not sure what its from, but it goes away fairly quickly and makes for interesting conversation I guess. Lots of people ask "Dude, what happened to you?" because it looks like I got beat with a bat, lol.

sometiimes if I flex hard I'll get seriously purple splotches up from my pecs, over my traps and down the shoulders and back a little...
I always wonder what it is...its not like the veins (which I get exploding out also), its more like an underlying tissue inflammation or something.
I can get them to appear after 1-2 seconds of flexing and they go away almost instantly after I stop flexing.

my face will turn red and my hands get pretty red when I work hard. Just the nature of your skin tone and cardiovascular system I guess. You could ask a doctor...
