When you purchase natural peanut butter, there is a layer of oil at the top of the jar. Is this layer supposed to be mixed in (as I know that oil separates from a product after a certain amount of time), or is it supposed to be drained off? I want to keep the content of the peanut butter as consistent with the nutritional information on the side. I'm trying to keep a precise fat intake so I can keep my 40/40/20 macro accurate. Thanks!

mix it up and refrigerate it to keep it mixed(at least it works for me, but my fridge is extremely cold, cold enough that it sometimes freezes milk)
its all natural oils...for more info there may be something printed on the jar's label...other than that just mix it up

mix it, im pretty sure the bottle said mix then refrigerate, so why bother ask
def mix it, you can actually store it upside down in the cupboard before you open it and it makes it much easier to fully incorporate the oil.
Well, if it had said it on the label I wouldn't have askedOriginally Posted by ryuage
what brand is it... ive bought about 4 different ones that all have said it.
Can you find natural PB at any grocery store?
I'm sure it says it somewhere on the bottle/cap.Originally Posted by betastas

It's a very simple label. There are no instructions. Trust me on this one, I am the one with the Jar.
I don't see why this is becoming such an issue.
I've seen a layer of oil on regular peanut butter too, it must be normal.

The difference between organic peanut butter and the stuff you buy at Vons, lets take Jiffy for example, is actually quite astounding. The fact that you have to mix it is one of the biggest differences as normal peanut butter has a chemical in it that stops the oil from seperating even while warm but unfortunately it is not exactly the healthiest thing you can be eating.
well you didnt answer my quesiton, what brandn is it?Originally Posted by betastas
i've never encountered that w/ my extra chunky jiff...
Thats exactly what I do.. I store it upside down in the cupboard for about a week before I open it for the first time, and then I mix it.Originally Posted by spencerjrus
After its fully mixed, I keep it upside down in the fridge so that the peanut butter is easy to get to, especially when it starts getting empty. This helps it stay soft even when in the fridge if you've mixed it correctly and thorughly. If you don't mix it thoroughly, when you get to the end of it, sometimes its too dry to spread on bread...
upside down is the way to go.

I can't believe that this is such a big issue. Even if it had said it on the label, there is no reason why this should have become such a problem. Honestly I know how to read, I know how to look at a label, the simple point is that there isn't anything on there, and I was hoping to find an answer here (which I already have).
Some brands make you wish you had a paint can shaker......mixing it up can give you carpal tunnel syndrome!
