    Natural Peanut Butter Mixing

When you purchase natural peanut butter, there is a layer of oil at the top of the jar. Is this layer supposed to be mixed in (as I know that oil separates from a product after a certain amount of time), or is it supposed to be drained off? I want to keep the content of the peanut butter as consistent with the nutritional information on the side. I'm trying to keep a precise fat intake so I can keep my 40/40/20 macro accurate. Thanks!

mix it up and refrigerate it to keep it mixed(at least it works for me, but my fridge is extremely cold, cold enough that it sometimes freezes milk)

def mix it, you can actually store it upside down in the cupboard before you open it and it makes it much easier to fully incorporate the oil.

It's a very simple label. There are no instructions. Trust me on this one, I am the one with the Jar.

I don't see why this is becoming such an issue.

I've seen a layer of oil on regular peanut butter too, it must be normal.

If by "natural" you mean organic then no. I don't know what part of the country you live in but places like Whole Foods, Henrys and Trader Joes are all over the place and have excellent selection of organic foods that allow you to bulk while eating healthy. The difference between organic peanut butter and the stuff you buy at Vons, lets take Jiffy for example, is actually quite astounding. The fact that you have to mix it is one of the biggest differences as normal peanut butter has a chemical in it that stops the oil from seperating even while warm but unfortunately it is not exactly the healthiest thing you can be eating.

Thats exactly what I do.. I store it upside down in the cupboard for about a week before I open it for the first time, and then I mix it.

After its fully mixed, I keep it upside down in the fridge so that the peanut butter is easy to get to, especially when it starts getting empty. This helps it stay soft even when in the fridge if you've mixed it correctly and thorughly. If you don't mix it thoroughly, when you get to the end of it, sometimes its too dry to spread on bread...

upside down is the way to go.

i hate when im in a hurry and dont mix it well enough and then it gets so hard in the fridge it becomes unspreadable. you can actually microwave it for a couple seconds to soften it up but i dont know how i feel about microwaving large quantities of hydrogenated oils lol.

The brand is "Tout Naturel". There are NO instructions regarding stirring it or not. Here are 6 pictures that I took the time to take and upload to prove my point.

I can't believe that this is such a big issue. Even if it had said it on the label, there is no reason why this should have become such a problem. Honestly I know how to read, I know how to look at a label, the simple point is that there isn't anything on there, and I was hoping to find an answer here (which I already have).

    LOL

I think Ryuage believed you anyway, and just wanted to know the name and the "hmmm" was just that..not accusing you of being a moron or anything.

Those are beautiful peanut butter pics though..very clear.
