    Is the sugar from fruit...

...any different than just eating sugar from junk food and stuff? If so, how?

it is better, im not positive about why, and i dont feel like searching around, but i believe it is surcrose(maybe dextrose?), which burns better then glucose which is the other stuff, then there is the sugar in milk, casien, which just is the ****

Fructose is the sugar found in fruit.

Sucrose (table sugar) is made up of glucose and fructose

Lactose is the sugar found in milk and milk products

Casein is the protein found in milk

Glucose would "burn easier" (be digested faster, etc etc) b/c all carbohydrates are converted to glucose before they are used for energy or stored in the liver and muscle cells as glycogen. Taking straight glucose would eliminate the need for that conversion.

emjlr3, no offense, but you have no idea what you are talking about.

I would rather eat a banana than a candy bar. But I wouldn't go eating a dozen banana's a day either.

It's also metabolised differently in that fructose preferentially refills liver glycogen. Glucose (and its mirror image dextrose) on the other hand preferentially refills muscle glycogen.

This is relevant for a couple of reasons. Firstly hepatic glycogen levels are one of the primary factors in determining whether the body is in an anabolic state. Secondly postworkout it is far more important to refill muscle glycogen that was used for fuel during the workout.

Now it depends on the junk food. Some may contain "sugar". This is sucrose, a disacharride composed of 50% glucose and 50% fructose. Others may contain things such as glucose syrup or dextrose. In this latter case if it is candy with little fat content then this would in fact be acceptable postworkout (I believe you guys in the states have stuff called smarties; totally different animal on this side of the pond).

Note also that the sugar in milk, lactose, is a disaccharide consisting of 50% glucose and 50% galactose. Galactose also preferentially refills liver glycogen.
