The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Bench, squats and deads... a quick question...

Is it possible to only train deads, bench and squats? If so...how?

Yes. Search for powerlifting on the web, you'll find stuff. If you want to do it for bodybuilding, though, I'd suggest bench/squat/chins.

im doing it right now. but i do some "supplement work" for each lift. like leg curls and abs for squats.....tricep and delt work for bench and grip, lat work for deads(deads get alot of help from the supplement work of squats)...each get there own day. its pretty nice knowing all u have to concentrate on is squat or bench or deadlifts. its like sence thats all u do, u get more out of it if say u added leg press, leg ext. cause u know in the back of your mind "dame i still have to do all that!" . i like it. u should try it.

"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!"

I did something like this, but instead I used dips instead of bench.

After about 4 weeks I got burnt out and switched my routine.

well first of all your training has to match your goals and life commitments so why would you want to train like this? Is there any particular reason or are you just curious..

If you are just curious I would say that you could definetely train with justbthese three movements however I believe for most trainers it is more beneficial to add some assistance exercises in. rowing, chins, curls etc..

I did something like this for a while:

    Week1
mon - heavy dips, light chins
wed - heavy squats, light deads
fri - light dips, heavy chins

    Week2
mon - heavy dips, light chins
wed - light squats, heavy deads
fri - light dips, heavy chins

My lifts went up very quickly, but they also dropped very quickly. I got burnt out really quickly. If you are going to do something like this I'd suggest increasing your lifts very slowly. Light 2 lbs a week or so instead of say 5 - 10 lbs.

Are you trying to increse strength to compete as a PLer, or just increase strength in general?
    Squats work better than supplements.
"You know, if I thought like that, I'd never put more than one plate on the bar for anything, I'd never use bands or chains, I'd never squat to parallel or below, and I'd never let out the slightest grunt when I lift. At some point in your lifting career (assuming you're planning on getting reasonably strong and big), you're going to have to accept that most people think you are some kind of freak." -Sensei

Well, if he's training to compete as a Pler, doing a 3x3 might not be a bad idea

(Konte's 3x3 is a 3 day a week program where you do all three lifts each day)

If the goal is general 'strength' I would definately do more than just the big 3. I'd revert back to the list of 6 I've referred to before, at a minimum.

3 same exercises 3 times a week would wear me out, especially going heavy. so im assuming you don't go to failure?

(dont mind me. know nothing about powerlifting)

    Nope - not to failure.

You can read up on it at deepsquatter.com. Go to the archives, and look for Stephen Korte's 3x3 articles.

Korte's program also isn't very effective. The frequency and volume are high, but the intensity doesn't do much in the precomp phase.

I didnt' get much out of it.
