The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

What a long, strange trip it's been....

Hi all, just dropping by to say hello, let you know I'm still alive and kicking, and working out and all that good stuff. Just finished my first-year grad school rotations and picked a lab/advisor so I know what I'll be doing for the next 5-6 years....very cool, and very exciting! The results of about two years work and planning have been tremendously rewarding. It's also been hectic and challenging, but I'll try to summarize the last year or so at some point. In addition to grad school, I've got a couple of other things in the works (I thrive on multi-tasking and never can keep it sane!) so my time/energy are pretty focused...I'm taking off to enjoy my spring break as of about an hour from now...miss you all, and I'll try to say hi when I can.

Good to read you, young lady.
    Squats work better than supplements.
"You know, if I thought like that, I'd never put more than one plate on the bar for anything, I'd never use bands or chains, I'd never squat to parallel or below, and I'd never let out the slightest grunt when I lift. At some point in your lifting career (assuming you're planning on getting reasonably strong and big), you're going to have to accept that most people think you are some kind of freak." -Sensei

LOL! I see some things (like smartasses) never change Yes, still working out...that's just been such a part of my life/a habit for so long that it's always in the mix, just sometimes more of priority, sometimes not. I think the discipline and routine, as well as the fact that it just makes me feel good, are what's most valuable to me right now.

And yes, still playing hockey, but that's much less of a priority right now too and there's less of it. I'd have to say that just about everything I do has been re-vamped and re-prioritized, but it's definitely what works for right now.

Over the summer, before I had a minor neck/back injury from hockey, my deadlift PR was 255 and was getting close to benching my body weight...then I had to take the rest of the summer off from lifting and now I don't get enough sleep or eat enough, mostly because I get wrapped up in something and FORGET to eat, so workouts are mainly for maintaining/balance. Which is as good a reason as any!

"I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do--this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it.
So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God's law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God--through Jesus Christ our Lord!"
