The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Purpose for lifting: lift more or get big?

I know the two are obviously related, but I was just wondering what most people's primary purpose was in working out: to simply be able to lift more, or to improve your physique? Which motivates you to go to the gym

First off, I'm lifting for strength, kind of with size as a plus. After I get to benching around 200 (im 14 and only bench 135, I have a long way to go), then I will probably lift purely for size.

I changed my diet and started lifting three and a half years ago because I was almost obese, I was sick all the time, I got migraines, I was on metformin for insulin resistance, and my cholesterol was through the roof (and don't say it's because I was lazy or a glutton - this was while on my "low fat diet" while JOGGING 10k 3x a week. Grrrr....)

I'm now in my forties, and in better shape than I've ever been in. No migraines, cholesterol down to enviable levels without meds, off the metformin, and I haven't even had a COLD in over three years.

But being healthy wouldn't be enough to make me continue doing it.

    I do it for this:

    and this:

Im a natural fatty. So my diet needs to be KEY! I get strange looks from ppl when I'm not drinking at the club. Last night I went out and everyone's like "why aren't you drinking" and when I tell them I'm dieting they just laugh. Oh well, its dedication you fcuks!

Anyways, as of right now I lift for physique. Although if I'm dieting so hard that my bench gets under 380, my squats get under 500, and my deads get under 500, then I really start to re-evaluate my decision of why I lift. I like to be strong!

That said, both are huge goals of mine. I eventually would like to be a 260-280 comp weight (3-4%) so that would put me around 290-310@10% bf. Thats a physical-long term-10year type goal. As far as strength, I'd like to see a 500lb bench, an 800lb squat and the same deadlift.

    I've gotta ways to go!

Dude, I posed with my arms crossed in a sleeveless cowboy shirt and a hat.

I wouldn't go on stage in speedos and a cowboy hat. haha.

My ex-girlfriend bought me the outfit and then my mom requested a picture since she lives 2000 miles away..... so I took the picture and it came out alright so I posted it.

I train so I drop more people on their head harder, slam my knees into their face faster, put a heavier longer blitz together with my hands, get stronger, and for mental meditation.
Also, I keep a very good diet mostly and have >10% BF all the time. But looks are secondary.

Also, I can move furniture easier for some reason!?!?!

Strength. I can't diet hard enough to show off my pretty muscles, that's why I do powerlifting.
