fixation it has been said before and I will say it again, you ask more questions than anyone I have ever met lol ....but I use the standing calf raise machine, and the plate loaded seated one, I find doing the seated one better to do first because you can't cheat as much

For Donkeys, is it really necessary to have a partner sit on you?...because I don't think I'm gonna find anyone in the gym who will sit on me.

For donkeys, what's necessary is that you bend at the waist, and the weight is distributed across your hips. The easiest way to do this, without a special machine, is to have a partner sit on you. A few gyms have a donkey calf machine to get the same effect--you basically put your arse under the weighted pad.

I don't have a Donkey Calf Raise machine at my school and no one is going to sit on me. What is a good alternative to Donkeys? Or are there none?

I don't have any calf machines at home, so would it be okay to just use a BB to do calf raises?...holding the BB like I would when doing shrugs?

just did my leg day and i use a smith machine loaded with a $hit load of weight, and one of those stupid aerobic step up plastic thingys. so i can stand on the edge of the plastic thingy and put the bar on my back like squats, and do the calf raises with my heels hangin off the edge so i can go down extra far.

But would I have to place the BB on my traps/posterior delts to do calf raises? I was thinking of just gripping the bar like I would when shrugging.

i would assume that it is easier to put the bar on your shoulders rather than try and hold it, i guess it would work either way but thats just my 2 cents

I do bodyweight raises, three sets to failure.

45lb plate laying with the cutout side down..lay a towel on it..add another 45lb plate cutout side down..i raise from those, one leg at a time with the other foot locked behind my working foot's ankle, while steadying myself on the arm of my treadmill. It works..

But, then again I'm raising 245 for bodyweight.

When your calves get stronger, you don't add any weight at all? And if so, how many reps are you up to now?

I do plate loaded seated calf raises and I use the Leg Press. I tried using dumbells before but could do much more than my grip would allow.

I've tried doing toe presses in the leg press machine before, but I prefer using the calf raise machine or using BB or something. And if your grip can't handle the DBs, why not use a BB?

Over the past 4-5 weeks I've been jumping rope, my calves have never looked better.

I do pound away on them once or twice a week using heavy weight and switching between Donkey calves, Standing Calves and Seated calve machine.

Oye. I could make a couple dozen comments right about now...

I use a standing calf raise machine, and will be doing it on the leg press as well. Though I'm way too lazy to load that many plates for calf raises, so I'll probably end up using the leg press machine . Seated is good too, but I hurt myself last time so no more of that.
