The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Didn't sleep a wink last night...

My problems with sleep came back big time last night, and I didn't sleep at all. Just tossed and turned for hour upon hour.

The worst part is i had a killer leg workout yesterday and was really tired when I went to bed, but I know that my muscles didn't get their much needed rest and recovery and i'm probably not going to benefit much at all from my workout.

I'm also gonna have a hard time convincing myself to eat today, because I know without sleep your muscles aren't in the right condition to grow and i'll probably just be making myself fat.

I hate this. I'm in hell.

Why couldn't you sleep? I sleep like a toddler, especially if I worked out that day. It's all mental, I use to roll around for hours too sometimes, especially when its hot and I have no air-conditioning so yea.

    Good luck man.

Your muscles don't sleep. They get rest and recovery when you don't use them.

As for your second paragraph, lack of sleep (if it's only one night) does not affect your muscles to that degree.

Your muscles are fine. You are just in a depressed mood because your mind did not have a chance to relax. Don't worry about it. If it becomes several nights (in a row) then you may have a problem and need to see a doctor. Based on the info you provided, you don't need to worry about this or getting fat. You're okay.

Well you're actually wrong about that, but thanks for the encouragement.

Also, it has been more than one night; it's actually been an ongoing thing which is why I'm stressed out about it.

Nope, the actual muscles themselves do not sleep. They relax. The person as a whole needs sleep.

I agree your case does sound a bit serious. Have you spoken to a doctor or a sleep specialist?

EA, doesn't your body need actual sleep for your muscles to grow? Isn't it during REM sleep that some sort of protein synthesis or something takes place?

I would recommend taking some Melatonin. I used to have trouble sleeping, but a couple grams of Melatonin before bed is helpful. You can get it just about anywhere.

Omg I totally agree, why let people voice their opinions when you could just moderate everyone until nobody can get offended.

I used to have insomnia and I know it sucks. Most of the time its a mental thing, not lack of a certain vitamin or herb.
    Sleep Hygene Rules:
-Try to keep the same waking hours, 7 days a week, sleeping in on weekends disrupts your sleep pattern
-If you don't fall asleep after 15-30 mins of going to bed, GET UP! Do not lay in bed awake for hours. I cannot emphasize this enough. Otherwise your mind will start to associate your bed with wakefulness (conditioning). Do something quiet until you feel tired again
-Don't go to bed until you are really ready to do so. Go to bed based on how you feel, not the clock
-Keep a sleep journal, it can be important for diagnosing a problem
    -Avoid excercise in the evening
-Try a relaxation technique, like deep breathing when lying in bed
    -Do not take naps! Ever
    -Do not use caffeine
-Try to unwind in the evening with a long walk or other calming activity
-Never use alcohol to induce sleep
    -Talk to your doctor

    Good Luck.

I couldn't sleep for **** last night either. I even took an Ambien around 12am and I still couldn't sleep. I am taking Thermocin, so until I get a little more used to the supplement, I suppose thats how it goes. I'm going to buy a Melatonin bottle today... hopefully that will work

So tired.. not even sure if working out today is worthwhile.

Yes, if you are sensitive to stimulants Thermocin can do that to you.

If you are taking a full dose of Thermocin try to not take the 2nd dose any later than noon (assuming you take the first dose no later than 9 A.M.).

Avoid all other stimulants during the day as well (such as any caffeine containing drinks etc.).

You may also wish to lower your dose of Thermocin until you acclimate.

I'm not offended by pot heads. It simply doesn't help to post stupid replies.
You're just a bunch of stoners with an audience, hidden through anonymity, thus you're acting like douche bags. If we were all standing face to face, you wouldn't say crap because you know you'd get your ass kicked by someone.

Definitely cut back the thermocin for a week, and make your last dose at noon, just like other's have posted. The only downside I've seen to melatonin is that it can be difficult to come out of sleep. Then again, I'm not a morning person, and will sleep through my alarm even if I don't take melatonin.
