The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

It’s no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

IronCurtain - S in "Soviet", With Pics!!!

    Preface

Well well well, another online journal for me. I had one up before on www.Sherdog.com but I'm transferring over to here since I will be changing over to WBB#1 as of Monday, April 11th 2005.

My body fat percentage I have no idea about, probably about 20%? I'll be keeping a detailed journal of my progression and maybe even the foods I eat! Hell, I might even post pictures of my progress! Lets go bitches.

    Personal Info

When I was about 6 I was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor, its a cancer of the kidney. The doc's gave me Chemotherapy and it got rid of the virus. It came back, even stronger then before and I had to get my kidney removed. But now, 11 years later I'm stronger then ever before. I am reminded of the **** I had to go through everyday because of the scars on my stomach/chest.

Keep yourself motivated. Lift the ****ing weight.

But on this note, I am not going to be taking any supplements or any**** like that to try to "speed up" the process. All natural, the only thing I might add in is multi-vitamins.

    Pics (Before, as of 4/11/05)

    Specs

    Age : 17
    Weight : 165lbs
    Height : 5"11
    Bodyfat : 20%? +-5

    Current PR's

For those who don't know what a PR is, its a personal record in the gym. Lets go.

    Bench Press - 135lbs x 3
Deadlift - Haven't maxed out yet
    Squat - Same as above

Will max both Squat and Deadlift this week and update those numbers.

    Goals

Cut bodyfat % down to about 15 or so. Get to at least 200lbs on all three main lifts, some a little more or a little less than others.

<-- me now, the blue one
:evillaugh <-- me after I hit my goals

WBB1 was too tough for me..lol.

I switched it up, because doing shoulders, bi's, and tri's on the same day was KILLING ME. I also couldn't do s**t for triceps work, because by the time I got to them I was dead. That's a good routine, though, and part of my problem is that I didn't have most of the equipment, and was improvising.

As far as diet, you haven't been keeping your fitday up to date, but on the days that you filled it in, you're low on calories. If I remember correctly from your picture thread, you decided to bulk. 2000 calories is not a bulk. You're almost at cutting calorie level with those amounts. You've gotta step it up on the food intake, because eating is what makes you a beast.

and, like paul said, PUSH YOURSELF. every time you go in the gym, you should expect to get PR's. On my workout logs (if you dont have a log, start one..one you carry to the gym), I put a little * beside every rep or weight PR. I am obsessed with seeing * on my notepad. You have to get obsessed about it to become a beast, or you'll end up like I did the last time, which is a weak failure.

    Go lift..

Yea FitDay got too annoying to update because I eat so many home cooked russian meals that I would have to custom add/find etc etc bla bla..

I decided to cut to get down to 155, im at 161 now.

I want to see more muscle definition or tone, lower BF % (I'm at 14% now).

    Thanks though.

I just want to say that you are at the best time to add some muscle to your current lean mass. At your age and metabolism and testosterone levels you are built for putting on mass. Me at 36, not so good. LOL

So let's do the numbers here. Let's say you are at 161 and 14% bf so that puts your fat at around 22.54 lbs and your lean mass at around 138.46. Ok we go down to 155 lbs and you somehow keep your 138.46 lbs of lean mass, this brings you to 11% bf. Not that much difference, and you'll probably try to go leaner as you might not be satisfied with how you look, not enough muscle definition, well now we're down to not much weight.

So let's do the opposite, instead of losing 6 lbs of fat let's gain 6 lbs of muscle. So this gets you to 144.46 of lean, and in the process of gaining muscle you are going to burn fat, so let's be on the low side and say 2 lbs of fat lost, this gets us to 165 lbs at 12% bf.

So which do you think is going to look better? 155 lbs at 11% or 165 at 12%. I don't know about you but I'm leaning towards the 165 lbs. Eat enough calories/protein/carbs at the right time and exercise right and you could do this in a month, 2 at the most.

So have at it! Put some meat on dem bonz!

Awsome way to look at it Mle_ii, and chances are he will burn more than 2lbs of fat in the process of gaining that LBM.

Though I might not go as far as Wendys and McDonalds every day I bet your metabolism could handle it. But don't try it. Every once in a while it's ok.

Also, you probably don't have to be to crazy with the lean meats on the bulk. Its great if you can do it the majority of the time, but give yourself a break here and there. So long as you aren't eating WAY too many calories it won't matter all that much. Again if you can do a clean bulk (I'm talking mentally) well then all the better. Nutritionally it will help you out more than the Biggie Fries at McDs.

Don't forget about tunafish, buffalo, turkey, some pork is pretty lean, salmon. Though the problem with variety can be that it means more cooking. I usually cook up a batch of chicken breast and eat it for the week.
