    Apple Trees

Last year I moved into a house that just happens to have 2 nice apple trees. Last year most of the fruit was bad due to worms, bugs and such getting to it. I figure this year why not have all that free food, and not the bugs. So whats the best method to warding off bugs to the fruit? I know spraying the trees is a option, but with what chemicals and how often? Is their any other recommended methods.

    Thx

I highly recommend spraying it with Alar. Or DDT.

Depends on what kind of bugs and what kind of rot problems you're having,

Sevin will kill most bugs, and you'll need a good fungicide to protect the fruit from rot.

What kind of apple is it?

I've heard cayenne + water helps with most insects.

Do you have an apple orchard in your town? Give them a try.

Mostly I think worms are getting to them. Sevin has been recommended to me by a friend as well. I think they may be Mac, but not totally sure. I like yellow apples better, but for free red will do.

Call your local extension office, they will have brochures and other materials for you at no charge or a very small cost. Most office will have a fruit and/or vegitable agent depending on your counties size and production. If not there should be a county or regional horticulture agent available to help you with your questions.
