Anyone have any experience with these?
I took a brief look on google and there are so many different ones!
I've never seen one, nor talked to anyone thats used one, but they say it takes out a ton of the harmful "smoke".
Is there another forum out there that might be more geared to this topic?
isn't that like a bong, but more diffuse?

Dude, did Doogie Howser just steal my fucking car?
My old roommate and I bought one together a long time ago. It was really cool. Our's had the Grim Reaper riding a chopper in flames around the base. We called it the Grim Reefer. We paid roughly $90 U.S. The smoke is kind of tastes like popcorn; it is very strange. The "effects" are very different from traditional smoking. Very hard to explain, but very interesting. I'd recommend giving one a try.
kinda, its a heating apparatus that gets the contents to a point where the THC vaporizes, but not hot enough to cause combustion which would release more toxins.Originally Posted by Tryska

they all seem kinda expensive, like 80-250$
could you ask the people you know what model/brands they like and which to stay away from?Originally Posted by excokehead
I'm already sold on the concept! just trying to wade through the various models and design concepts and figure out which is best!
Some fill balloons with the vapors, others hold them in tubes.
Some have temp adjustments, etc...

you can make one yourself on the cheap if you like... essentially all you need is a heat source and a means to concentrate the volatilized cannabinoids
perhaps the simplest version of this if you want to experiment is the Blenderizer
if you're buying prebuilt, I recommend you consider when/how/where you want to use it. If you want a portable unit, ruggedness, concealability and cool factor may all be important to you. If you want a home unit, there may be different considerations.
You may also want to buy from a local head shop (if one is available) so you can easily take it back if it's defective... while corporate warranties aren't likely in this industry if your local head dude is a good guy he'll want to ensure you have a quality experience.
Activation of THC acids in cannabis (decarboxylation); this occurs at around 103 degrees Celcius with vapourization at around 180-200 degrees. Smoking performs this process but is reported to destroy between 40 and 98% of the THC (Korte, Miras etc.*). ... what this means is that you need something that will reliably heat to the required temperature without going over (buds will scorch/burn) and without staying too low (won't vaporize all the buds)

the price ranges you mention match what I've seen, btw...
$80ish for a basic model, scaling up as features and funk are added in
It sounds like you've already made up your mind to purchase or make one. Good call! Once you try a vaporizer you will never go back to smoking weed normally. It's like night and day. There is minimal waste compared to burning the weed and its a much much more concentrated high. Its really out of this world. I'm going to look and see if I can find a link for the one my friend had in college. He was one of the most OCD people i ever knew and researched them for over a month before he purchased.
Haha, hardly. Just hung out with a bunch of pot heads. =)
I've tried one once. Liked it a lot. The thing is, whatever bud you put in there is gonna be constantly "burning." So its almost like the best way to smoke it is to just keep your mouth on the tube and breath in through mouth, out through nose. It definitely has a smell to it but its not the familiar one. If you get a good one, I think its definitely worth it.

Hey geoff those are awesome . There is almost no taste and no smoke . The only bad thing is you go through more weed because it constantly burns .
Give me your broken , give me your beaten ... I will build them up , I will lead them ... to the threshhold . Make you stronger , make you believe .
I made one out of a light bulb. Pretty cool.

For anyone that is interested here is a good list of vaporizers:
I think I'm gonna go with the Vapir Air2 model (its gonna be a gift for someone else )
Its light years ahead of the other units in terms of marketing, design, heat control, and a zillion other areas
here is a good (BUT LONG!!!) video clip on the unit, how it works, etc..

My friend from florida has one but I've never seen it. He described it as a volcano, so maybe it's the one on that list. Personally I like the taste of the weed, that's the whole point of buying the good stuff-besides the better high.

Google "overgrow and light bulb vaporizer" or some variation of that, it should be the first or second link. Also you can find plans on there to build a much better vaporizer using a soldering iron.
geoff, you should pm me. For $300 you should get one of the buy one get one free colors like black and blue and sell me the other one or something.

dunno if it's out of your price range, but the Volcano is the most highly touted vaporizer I heard of
$700 though... pricey!!
