I increased my daily water intake to 60+ oz during the work day. Monday through Wednesday I was able to take in 90+ oz per day to be in the ‘proper’ ratio with my weight. My weight fluctuated quite a bit this week. I ended at 184.5 on Friday. Wednesday 181.5.

April 18, 2005

I am beginning a modified “Velocity” diet this morning. I am 38 years old, 5’ 11” tall, medium build and I weighed in at 179.5 lbs. Visible and tactile fat composition on my abs and sides has changed considerably over the past week. I also have this crazy idea that fatty tissue massage is helpful. I have been including the massage in sporadic bursts for the past year. Theory is based on kidney and liver function stimulus due to water intake. The idea (not original) is that increased water intake should help the kidneys if they are working at a decreased efficiency due to persistent mild to moderate dehydration. No sources to quote because I hadn’t planned on telling anyone else about my craziness, but I read that liver and associated gall bladder function can be impaired due to ‘taking up the slack’ for some reduced kidney function. Proper hydration should jump start the kidney and liver functions and tissue massage may break the fatty tissue into smaller particles for easier uptake. I know, nutty, but it seems to make a difference. My plan is not as radical as Chris Shugart’s “Velocity” plan as I don’t believe that I have a lot of fat to lose. I plan to eat one solid meal per day, and hopefully keep it pretty healthy. I managed to lose 45 pounds from March of 2003 to March of 2004 by utilizing a very slack low carb diet. Some days I would cheat really badly, doughnuts are my weakness, pasta, rice, or potatoes, but I would then try to be ‘really good’ for a few days afterwards. When I decided to try to get back in shape again in March of 2003, my main question was “What causes diets to fail?”. Deprivation. If you LOVE chocolate cake and you deprive yourself, chances are pretty good that the wheels are going to come off the diet wagon at some point. I just tried to cut back sensibly and allow myself a little indulgence periodically so that I didn’t feel like all the ‘good’ foods had been taken away. I would also throw in a few more pushups and crunches to try to burn some of the indulgence off.

Currently, I lift 3 nights per week and the workout is based on the Westside philosophy. Admittedly, I’m not pushing as hard as I could. I’m not really trying to get into competition; I’m just trying to regain some strength and get back into decent shape again.

I’m using the At Large Products for my supplements. Thermocin fat burner, Multi-Plus vitamin supplement and Nitrean protein supplement. I’m going to start with a 6 meal per day plan of 6, 9, 12, 3, 6, and 10, with 6 pm most generally being the solid meal. The 10 pm meal will also be post work out.

I decided to be a little cautious with the Thermocin to start out. One at 9am and one at 12pm. No ill effects observed, pulse rate normal (cruddy). Bumping to 2 at 3pm.
