    How Gyms Should Be

I found this interesting, given the trend towards computerized machines ...

    http://edition.cnn.com/2005/HEALTH/d....ap/index.html

ALBANY, New York (AP) -- At this gym, there are no Cybex, Universal or Nautilus machines. The hundreds of weight plates piled around the place look like 1950s castoffs from the Soviet Bloc. There's no carpeting, just a concrete floor and a few rubber mats.

after hearing my gym play the following songs in order:

    1) endless love
    2) when a man loves a woman
    3) theme from family ties

I have been motivated to start a gym in my garage. Which will have concrete floors, and no computers.

more importantly, whatever music i want to play.

I have a home gym for just that reason. Listen to what I want, use the equipment like I want, when I want, and of course the nearest gym is 35 mins away.

Did they really play the theme from Family Ties? If so, that's criminal. (Not to mention mean.) Surely there must be a law against playing that in a gym. There must. Right?

lol, yes they actually played it. it took a minute for me to remember what show it was from. once it started that was the breaking point for most people in the gym. i dont know if whoever runs the music was just thinking they were funny or what.

Wouldn't buying a CD or MP3 player with headphones be an easier solutions?

Best way to cheat on deadlifts...

Stand there for a few minutes, then pace back and forth a lot, huff and puff, wait until everybody's looking. Approach the bar. Back off. Approach it again. Back off. Get some water. Chalk up. Approach the bar again. Then spray some more chalk around. Wait until people start losing interest. When nobody's looking, pick it a little off the floor, and slam it down. Jump up and yell "LIGHT WEIGHT BABY". Then give high fives all around. - Belial

I find it very distracting to do squats, bb rows and deadlifts with something in my ear.

My gym is teh gay. They play the same stupid pop tracks over and over.

One time I was in there really late and we got the girl at the front desk to put on some rock. But I guess someone complained and shes not allowed to do it anymore.

AHH man that gym is sweet!!

I workout at home but every once in a while I'll do a "free trial" at a local gym. The hotties are nice but in a 40,000 sf facility, there are 2 flat benches!?!? wth?? It's like freeweights are an afterthought at best. Last time I had to wait 10-15min for an open bench.
