The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

oh yeah, adding general size or bulking up will give you a bigger neck as well.

edit: Also don't forget genetics, some guys just don't have a big neck.

My rugby club's front row.. whose entire careers depend on their neck strength, follow the above neck strengthening program along with some major trap work.

"The trainee needs to look past the obvious solution to any problem and look for the real solution. For example, every arm training article in the last ten years to improve your arm circumference has included a workout based on curls and triceps extensions. Do you really think a lack of doing curls is the reason why most guys have less than impressive arms?

Every article on how to improve your chin-ups includes a program with a shitload of chin-ups in it. Is that all you've got? Improve your chin-ups by just doing more of them?

Really fucking cutting edge that is!"

personally i wouldnot start out with them if i've nevr worked my neck before. I'd let my neck to get strong before i attempt one of those bad boys. If you slip there could be some major pain.

    What's a shoulder curl?

DB shoulder presses did it for me.. now my shoulders and neck are out of proportion with the rest of me.

neck bridges are great just start out using your hands to support some of your weight. your neck will explode if you do neck bridges a few times a week not to mention how much strength you'll add to it

What are "neck bridges"? For some reason I've never heard of that. I'm assuming that it's a static exercise wherein you keep your body straight and lean into a wall or some such and support your body with your head and neck keeping them in line with the rest of your body. Am I on the right track? Is there a pic that shows this?

Neck bridge = the exercise you perform in football/wrestling warmups.

There's a forward neck bridge and a reverse neck bridge. For the forward you're in a three point stance (your legs up and not touching anywhere except on your toes and the top of your head planted on the ground) you move side to side from here. Then you can 1) if you're good kick your feet up and flip over or 2) Just twist so you're in this same stance with your back to the ground.
    Blood, sweat, and tears.

I think what he meant was a neck curl...maybe

Neck Curls: Neck curls require a neck strap and weight. The neck strap wraps around your head with the weight hanging below. You will curl the weight upward with the muscles in your neck.

Sounds a bit painful. Are you supposed to do this on a particular surface?
