    Squats only on leg day?

    Jumping off another thread here,
What do you guys think about doing 3-4 sets of squats on leg day nothing else? Of course, you would have to really do 'em hard, but would that be enough for max. growth? Because that's what really makes legs grow..

if you do them with enough intensity, i think they could do the trick... i still think you should add a hamstring exercise as well

Right. Because squats don't hit the hams quite as much? How 'bout this
    Squats 3 sets of 6-8
    SLDL's 2 sets of 6-8

SLDL and squats should be sufficient. I follow Stuart McRoberts school of thought and concentrate on heavy squats and heavy deadlifts only for my legs. I do wide-stance full power style squats that really work the adductors, hams, glutes and quads really well and then I do regular stance deadlifts or SLDLs.

you should work your hams and quads with the same intensity. They really help each other grow.

If you do squats right you'll hit your hammys just as hard, if not harder, than your quads.

I do neglect calves. I just allow them to grow as my squat grows, along with the rest of my legs. Is this a no-no? I don't feel like I need to do them.

I hear you! Maybe once my legs get bigger I'll start on them.

I've been looking into this myself HG. I always felt my leg days were a bit too much at times and was looking for ways to cut it down some. I decided that on the days I do squats, I would focus on squats as my primary lift for the day. I added a hamstring lift (leg curls currently because I have a finger injury I need to let heal, but normally I do RDL's). 2 sets of those, then 2 sets of non weighted lunges (walking or stationary depending on my mood). I skip calves altogther as I don't fee I need to work them (I have naturally large calves so I don't feel this will be bad for them). As far as sets for squats, 4x4, then 1 set at a lower weight for 8 reps (big pauses at the bottom for the final set).

I have been doing this for about a month now and I seem to be doing ok. Granted, I'm not looking to get bigger, but my strength has been coming along nicely.

It's possiblefor one to just do squats and develop great legs, as long as you do them ATF. This is the only way, IMO to fully work your lower body and get away with just doing squats. If you have small calves, then some direct calf work might be necessary.

I plan on continuing this routine the whole summer and I'll try to post results. You can check out my journal as well to see how things are going (will be starting it up again June 1).

Squats make your calves grow. They make everything grow. Even your wang. The more you can squat, the bigger your wang.

I like weights. You know where you stand with them. Well, sometimes you're lying under them, trying not to let them crush you, but you see, you KNOW they'd crush you if they could. There's honesty.
