If you could target the bicep the way you say, then you should also be able to flex all the different parts of that muscle separately.
That's the stupidest thing I've heard in awhile. The bicep is 2 muscles. While you can't isolate and specifically work just one of them, you can adjust your grip to emphasize or target one of them. Just for shits and grins, next time you go to the gym, grab a cambered bar and load it with as much weight as you would normally do a curl with. Grip the bar close-grip with your hands close enough they're touching each other, and do a curl. If what you're saying is correct, it will be no harder and no easier than any other curl you've ever done. But I'm betting you're wrong and not only is it more difficult, you'll feel a very hard contraction on the outside bicep.

the bicep is one muscle....if ya don't believe me..you might wanna check this out...

    http://www.rad.washington.edu/atlas/bicepsbrachii.html

it's width and height are genetically pre-programmed. by working them however you worked them...you allowed them to grow.

as for your comments on cynics. sorry. i personally favor gray's anatomy over flex for my physiology sources.
    thanks.

note - tehcnically there is your brachialis in that bicep region too, but if you must consider that part of the bicep, you'd have to consider it your "lower bicep".

unless you meant the deltoid, which kinda is in that bicep area too..but that would have to be your upper bi..well perhaps your outer bicep/upper chest.

    it has 2 heads...one muscle...

Short head: tip of coracoid process of scapula
Long head: supraglenoid tubercle of scapula

but that is so far up it actually is covered by your pec major/deltoid muscles.....

again..you might want to refer to the anatmoy link i provided.

I disagree with you, so you say I get my info from Flex? That's an excellent defense. So again, next time you're at the gym, just for shits and grins, try the exercise I mentioned previously.

no, i said you get your info from Flex because it's blatantly wrong and smacks of muscle magazne half-truths.

as for my biceps.....i use various different curls as i choose to make them GROW, period. how they grow, will be up to my genetic code, which is just fine by me, and they've been coming along quite nicely.

although i will admit, what works them best for me, is seated DB curls and hammer curls.

It's understandable that you won't try them. Because when you find out what I said is right, your world would probably fall apart.

Why not, my biceps routine has helped me get from 14 to 17". I should have just given up when it got hard and said, "Whatever man, this is what I was genetically meant to have." I'd rather not take the easy cop out, though.

    your title is so fitting...
Thanks for your valuable input to the conversation, that really helped clear things up.

    highly unlikely. on both counts.

as for genetics...i'm quite happy with what God gave me. if you've got issues with your genetics, then you need to work on that however you need to. about the only way i'm truly gonna start surpassing genetics, is by juicing.

I'm disgusted that a thread with this topic would last this long.

No offense at all to KOOL_KIM. Just that once the question was answered, some other foos should have realized what the deal is.

What's the deal? Agree with something I do not believe in and have the arms to support, or just be labeled as "some flex reader"?

Like I said, you buy into the genetic limitations deal, that's a great cop out on this board apparently. I would probably word it differently, maybe something like, "This is getting too difficult, I don't want to work harder, this must be my 'genetic limit'."

    Great theory.

    who's copping out?

I'm sculpting the best body i can have. the body i was GIVEN. My arms will be how my arms are supposed to be. I'm fine with that. after all i can only be ME. so i don't know what your on about. Muscles grow and acheive the shape they are meant to have, accordign to your DNA. that is ALL.

you can enhance the size of your muscles beyond genetics by adding anabolic steroids to your mix, but the shape they take on will always be the same. just smaller or larger.

what happens if u both have results and different theories, maybe what works for one person doesn't always work for the next.
Truer words were never spoken. But that's blasphemy on this board.

shredder, here goes. Do biceps once a week. Do 3 sets of each exercise. 8 reps, 8 reps, 4 reps. If you complete a set, move up in weight, otherwise use the same weight for the next set....

    Week 1
Standing barbell curls (with the curved easy bar)
    Seated alternate dumbbell curls
    Close-grip cambered-bar preacher curls

    Week 2
    Wide-grip cambered-bar preacher curls
    Incline alternate dumbbell curls
    Standing close-grip cable curls

    Week 3
    Normal-grip standing cambered-bar curls
    Seated alternate dumbbell curls
    Prone incline dumbbell concentration curls

    Week 4
Barbell preacher curls (again with the easy bar)
    Incline alternate dumbbell curls
    Standing close-grip cambered-bar curls

Do this cycle twice (8 weeks).

you're suggesting 12 sets for biceps, changing the exercises every week?

you're also saying you can hot various parts of the biceps?

    this is a joke right?

my problem is that the rouitne he has posted is appauling. 12 sets for biceps, come on?!

no more than 6 sets for biceps in general.

After back work all you really need is a couple of sets, if that!

paul's initial advice that big guys have big arms stands true.

i'm sorry, but this whole width business is fukin moronic and is making this board look bad.
