The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

What is the advantage of having a small frame?

I've heard alot of people say a small frame helps in the long run. Why is this? And yes I have a small frame, I always thought it was bad, but it isn't?

    1) You look bigger, given the same measurements.

    2) You have a smaller range of motion, so are quite often at an advantage for lifting.

Well, like stated... if two people had 18" arms and one was small framed 150lbs and the other was large framed 300lbs, the smaller person would look much bigger. Shorter range of motion means that you wont have to go as far benching or squatting.

And coming from a small guy, there's no advantage.

If you're bigger you can naturally move and carry more weight. The bigger you are the stronger you're going to be. So if you're interested in actual strength not looks than being bigger would be better. If you're interested in looking more filled out at 200lbs well if you're smaller you will.

Being smaller can also come with the downside of having narrow girl shoulders like myself, which makes it extremely hard to carry weight.

Well that shoulder thing must be genetic but i agree that bigger guys have more room for power if you ask me, its been a bitch getting to where i am at my height and staying here.

Except that doesn't take into account actual wingspan or leg length. I have long legs and a short torso and am short, so i have to go down just as deep as everyone else on squat. For my height I also have long arms, so my bench still has to go up and down as far as my friend who's 4 inches taller than me.

Narrower shoulders usually equate to less testerone. Testerone aids in growth during puberty. Most shorters guys didn't grow as big as taller guys for that reason, less testerone. Its all interlinked.

Being 5'4 there's no way you're going to have wide shoulders like someone at 6'0.

Oh hell no my shoulders arnt going to be as wide as someone who is 6' but for my size i'd say they're plenty wide enough. I went through puberty at a really young age and filled out early just didnt grow vertically haha

    Big-peeps=accident magnet

    Less accident-prone?

Big peeps get hit by all kinds of stuff, shoulders hit things, stuff gets knocked over, all that jazz...

You little peeps have it good.

To be honest, im not totally sold on the fact that bigger guys are naturally stronger and that its any easier to get stronger if your bigger. My shoulders are very broad, hell im almost to the point of ripping the back out of 3XL shirt and yet I stand at a very short 5 ft 10-11 inches. If it were in proportion I should be like 6'4" for my shoulder size.
