Good routine/Bad routine?
Great site and very informative. Do work out routines have to include weight lifting? Does pushups, sit-ups, crunches, chin-ups (forward and reverse grips), and dips work just as well for someone starting out? Iíll be heading to boot camp in September and would like to tone a bit and be fit enough to endure it. My routine for now includes:
Push-ups Ė 2 sets at 30 seconds each
2 sets at 20 seconds each
Sit-ups - 2 sets of 25
Crunches - 2 sets of 25
(reverse grip) 5 sets of 5
(forward) 3 sets of 5
Other questions I have include:
Push ups and forward grip pull-ups, do they work the same muscles? Sometimes I canít do any after my push ups and reverse grip pull-ups.
Will running cancel out my work out routine?
I am about 5í 6Ē and 128lbs(it varies either way). I donít have a specific diet I adhere to. I just watch my candy and junk intake. Iím big on eggs, tuna, chicken, rice, that kind of stuff. And drink a lot of water. After each workout I drink a Twin Labs Creatine Fuel cocktail thing. 2 scoops in 8oz of water per the directions. Donít know if it helps, I get mixed reviews on that. If anyone could just tell me if this sounds like a sensible workout routine Iíd really appreciate it. I donít have a gym close by and with gas prices nowadays Iíd rather do what I can at home. I do have a bar and some weights lying around, just not sure if its really necessary for my needs. Thanks a lot.

Hey, I don't do too much with the legs except jogging. Sorry to make you dizzy. I was trying to describe my situation and questions as accurately as possible. I do apologize. I am going to stop or cut down on the creatine though. It hits my stomach hard and makes me feel sick. Not a feeling I want

For Boot camp, this should be allright.....since this is the type of stuff you will be doing....you're not going to be in a gym lifting weights. You might want to think about adding in some rope climbing and other exercises that will help you with the obstacle courses.
