    Finding target heart rate zone

Does anyone know a more better way to get your max heart rate than that cheesy 220 - age crud? Like something I can do at home without having to hire a team of proffesionals. I used that formula and got my target heart rate zone (70% max) and when I trained at my target heart rate zone, I was having to jog slower than all hell. This can't be right. I can't even do my fave cardio exercise of jump rope, cus it by far exceeds my supposed target zone. Anyone else have this cunundrum? Any help / advice very appreciated, thank you.

I ran like a madman on a treadmill for about 5 minutes until I was about to die, then grabbed the heart rate handles, and hit 192bpm at 28 years old. That's 220-28.

    Try that.

Anyway screw the target zone, go for 90%+ max, it's way more fun.

There's a formula based on resting heart rate. I don't know what it is though, but if you google it I'm sure you could find it easily enough.

I'm about to take a nap but if no one has give you a good formula by the time you wake up I'll go get my PT book and look it up for you cuz I'm pretty sure I know what you're talking about.

Um yeah, about that formula I was gonna give to you after my nap...

I was over it when I woke up (late for work) but it looks like you got your answer anyway.
