The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    I got 155 powerclean today!!

OK, apologies if this is the wrong thread but i thought this would be the right one.

anyhow, today i finally got 155 power clean!!! i know thats wimpy but in may i maxed 145 and from then on i always got atleast 145x5 but i could NEVER get 150 for the life of me. today i went in, did some endurance squats, and headed over to powerclean. i was with my friend and he is a week ahead of me so we did 4x4x2. he did his 4 and i did mine, he lifts a ton and he was tired so he went off to something else. i had 130 on to do my second set of 4, did it, and i went to getta drink. i came back and i put on 145 because i felt good. i did it with ease one time because i was gonna max and i didnt want to tire myself. i put on 2.5's and did 150 easily, i was like WOW, then i put on 2.5's again and did 155. i rested and i added another 2 2.5's but i was too tired and coudlnt get it. i am so happy i finally got 155, thats the best in my grade

Could you explain what a powerclean is? I know what a clean is, what is the difference?

well, i think they may be the same thing... its the bar on the floor, bend your knees and grip it, use ur legs to bring it up to about ur knees and then flip the bar up on ur chest while jumping in the air... does that make sense?, all i one fluid motion.

yes i think cleans and power cleans are the same thing or some people refer to cleans as doing the power clean except starting at your knees........

(Full) Cleans, powercleans, and hang cleans are different things. Here's a recent thread that we talked about cleans and snatches...

Ive powercleaned back in HS during our summer football weight training. I never did get really good at them... most ever I think was 185x1. But if you can do 145x5 then you should be able to nail 160+.

i more than likely am going to stop doing oly. lifts since ive graduated HS. we just had to do them for football and i finished out my senior year with 285, which was by no means the highest in our school or even my weight. we had a few people at our school weighing around 185 power clean around 340lbs. this was the school record and by no means the usual weight powercleaned at my school. But for the football team id say the average is atleast 225. maybe i just went to a strong school

Since graduating i just focus on bench, squat, and deads.

yes good form, hes been lifting since about 12 or 13, and hes 17 now. our coaches watch us and make sure that we arent cheating. and hes a team captain, so he probly wouldnt cheat anyways.

well to maximize how much you lift in oly. lifts is to use good form. There is alot of technique involved.

Consider this: You just powerclean ME. Congratulations on now being able to toss lighter people around as you see fit. Powercleans - for when you just need to be able to heave a table...
It turns out the answer to every question is still deadlift and eat.

    Sorry but LOL^
Try to sort out your friendship away from the internet guys

Anyway, im surprised by how much earlier people start weight-training over in America, i guess its just the football. But over here in Tassie (small place in Australia) there are NO decent lifters in our school of 2000, the max bench in the last 'comp' (just to do our max's really) was 115Kg (240 pounds?) sad eh?.
People consider 'strong' to be doing lifts 210 pound zone :|. I guess because we don't ahve much reason to start so early.

BTW Nice Lifts guys impressed :evillaugh
