The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Increased libido due to weightlifting?

Ok, this is a serious (but potentially inflammatory) question. Is there any evidence that weightlifting and increased protein consumption increases libido?

I (ahem) seem to be experiencing such symptoms but perhaps it's simply due to the psychological effects of feeling better about myself and the fact that I'm more active and eating more heathily.

    Comments?

Weight training alone causes an increase in testosterone production. Testosterone increases your sex drive.

Which is a good thing considering that your testosterone levels would normally be decreasing. Perhaps lifting has helped to maintain your gusto.

I've read about the testosterone thing. But I tell you, my self image improved so much it was incredible. I think that that plays a MAJOR part in it as well.

Great side effect, isn't it? I've noticed the same thing as well, but I'm sort of at the "horny age" years, so that probably has something to do with it.

It definitely helps. Confidence + increased testosterone = you get the idea.

For me it has to do a lot with the cardio bunnies in their hot pink painted on outfits... :-)

The change I've noticed in my libido since starting this sport in 2001 has been remarkable. I also eat a higher-fat diet than I used to, and I can't help thinking this might have something to do with it (fats are good for endocrine function).

Feeling attractive, of course, is it's own aphrodisiac.

    Ouch, sorry to hear that.

Anyway I've found that since I've been lifting my libido has gone up. I definitely agree that my improved self-image has probably played a bigger part than the actual testosterone increases. Not like it matters though, my libido was already off the charts.

That's it in a nutshell (so to speak).

Without being tested, I know my T levels have to gone up.

yeah. I think its happened to me as well. I think it just has to due with a fitness level increase, reduced fat, and increased blood flow.

If you're taking any amino acid supplements like Arginine then you'll see a boost. It increases blood flow and one of the side effects is stronger erections.

Or at least thats what a friend told me

Honestly, without being too disgusting, I can say that sex and the O in general is never better than right after a hard workout (at least in my case). I think it's the muscle tension and the prolonged muscle contraction during the process. Add to this the confidence of coming out of the gym and that lifting high and I am one horny SOB.

As it turns out, I believe arginine is also one of the more important aminos in semen production. Use that tidbit as you may.

I had an increased libido as well, except for the times when I was overtraining seriously because I listened to Arnold and didn't know better.

If you want to sleep or just lay still more than you want sex, you're probably overtraining.

This might be off topic but what overtraining. I've heard a lot of criticism to this book and I've decided to re-assess my workout.

I took today off and I'm reviewing this forum to see if I should do WWB#1 as well as aerobic on the off days.

    Thoughts?
