What Abdominal exercises do you do?

    Two questions:

    1. How often do you work abs?
    2. What ab exercises do you do?

    Thanks.

1x or 2x a week AND I always do a form of weighted crunches, whether it be machine or on the decline (I'm becoming more loyal to the decline). For the decline I hold plates behind my head. I usually do 3 or 4 sets of these and then move on to obliques.

Once or twice a week. I've done a lot, but the only ones I do with any consistency whatsoever are Ab Pulldowns and Side Bends or Saxon Side Bends.

Other exercises I like are Russian Twists, Spread Eagle Sit-Ups, Pike-Ups w. "Power Wheel" (a wheel you strap to your feet), Ab Wheel, Weighted Stability Ball Crunches.

I do them twice a week. 2-3 sets of 8-10 reps of weighted knee raises and weighted incline crunches. I do oblique work 1-2 times a week with side bends.

Once or twice a week, whenever I think about it. The only exercise I do is standing weighted crunches on a cable machine.

This is exactly what I do.

Is there a site that describes or demonstrates the proper technique for those weighted side bends (assuming that's the correct name for the oblique exercise I'm thinking about? I've been doing that exercise lately, but I'm not sure if my form is correct, and if I'm getting the full benefit. Thanks.

Yeah when I was talking about obliques I was talking about what it sounds like you were talking about "side bends" (or whatever). I usually use straps and do around 100 lbs/side. I can't go perfectly to the side because it seems my obliques (on the side not being worked) run into my hips or something like that. Bottom line is I have a small range of motion if I just go perfectly to the side. Instead I go to the side but also a little bit forward. It'll work the lower back a little but that's not really a problem.

Other notes for form: I think it's best to keep your free arm to your side (like a teapot) to keep you from trying to cheat with that arm. You are pretty much a human pulley during this exercise so if your arm is out it creates torque that will help cheat. Never put DBs in both of your hands because that is just like putting the same weight on different sides of a pulley... it will not work your muscle out correctly.

I have some pretty burly obliques and am proud of them and I love my "side bends".

For what reason? Do you do 500-1500 calf raises everyday too? Or any other exercise for that matter?

He does have over 500 posts so I'm gonna assume it is a joke.

The sad thing is there are actually people out there who do it though...

I work abs almost every Sunday, not a big deal if I miss it though. 3-4 sets of various cruching exercises always weighted to get 8-10 reps, failing on the last rep. I love doing hanging leg raises but my current gym doesnt have a convenient method of adding weight, the ankle strap I use messed up my form.

2 times a week. weaning away from cruches more and more and doing a lot of leg lifs and side to side motions. Anything to punish the obliques and back fat. finish with cardio.

I used to know someone who'd do 100 situps at morning, 100 at lunch, and 100 in the evening. His abbs were pretty chiseled to say lest. There's no set way for good abdominals though. Just hit the cardio and throw a 10 minute abb session in from time to time. This strategy seems to work well for many people.

A low bodyfat % along with weighted exercises seems to be flawless though.

BTW if you really want to punish your "back fat" then watch your diet and caloric intake vs. expenditure...
