Relationship between flexibility and hip adductor strength?

I'm a guy, and I've been able to do a side-split since I was five.

Today, I went to my university's gym and tried one of the hip adductor machines. Specifically, it was the one where your legs move in instead of out.

I was surprised. I could do one set of eight at 160 pounds. Anything before that did not feel heavy enough.

So, what is the relationship, if there is any, between flexibility and hip adductor strength?

I doubt their is a relationship. The relationship you're looking it is opposite of mine. I can do a set of the whole stack on the hip adductor machine at my gym and can't even come remotely close to doing the splits.
