    Red Bull/energy drinks

Hey, i've heard alot of different things about energy drinks like Red Bull (the kind i've had before.) Are they in any way bad for you? I have one about once a week just cause I feel like it. Do they have the same affect that Pop does, like make you run out of breath faster when you run, cus im in football and if it does then I wont drink them anymore. Just want to know some facts, thanks all.

    What's bad in it?

Some sugar in there, but otherwise nothing really that bad...

Like I said, I don't know the facts off hand, but I learned from my coach/health teacher to stay away from it.

If I remember correctly it raises your heart rate to give you energy

They're about the equivalent of a Mars bar with added caffeine for energy. There's better ways to increase your energy.

I was told they will dehydrate you, but if that's the case then just drink a little bit more water than usual and you will be just fine.

Sugar and caffeine with some aminos and vitamins thrown in to make it look like it's actually good for you.

Incidentally, Japan has had these kinds of drinks for decades...

I didn't realize there was a sugar-free version. My biggest problem with them was the sugar content. Obviously, you should be trying to consume as little sugar as possible... with the exception of the post-workout meal. The caffeine is fine, even though there's only about a half cup of coffee in it. Don't drink them in place of water. Like Shark said, they'll dehydrate you.

Honestly, there's nothing great about them but one a week isn't going to kill you. I'd suggest you try the sugar-free version though to save your insulin levels from spiking.

i didnt realize there was a sugar free version, i wonder if it still tastes oh-so excellent. mmm crushed sweet tarts... but i am perfectly healthy, i dont have any problems with my heart or anything, so it probably wudnt do anything negative to me from what im hearing, but ill try the sugar free 1... is it cheaper?

A little bit of aspartame won't hurt you. Just don't live on the damn things.
