You know, when people talk about calories they usually mean kcals. Therefore 1kcal is nothing and a 5kcal diet is probably equivalent to eating a grape.

Sorry for being so pedantic but i just had to point his out.

What drummer is referring to is the fact that a calorie is the amount of energy required to heat up 1 gram of water by 1 degree celsius. In the scientific world that's what a calorie is but what we are usually talking about on this site is in fact a Calorie (notice the capitalization of the 'C') and it is the equivalent 1000 calories.

BTW yeah you are being pedantic. To be politically correct we should capitalize the word when we refer to "calories" here but we all have accepted the fact that when the word is used on this site it is referring to a Calorie = 1000 calories.

Just my opinion here, but blending oats up or grinding them into a powder and putting them into a shake pretty much destroys the purpose of eating whole oats as a good slow digesting steady source of carbs. Grinding them up into a powder or blending them increases the amount of surface area that your stomach acid is able to react upon...thus digesting faster. Thus insulin spike instead of slow realease. Thats my thoughts on oats.
