Do I "have" to do squats?

I just hate doing squats. My form isn't perfect plus I haven't done them in so long... I'm just wondering, is it absolutely necessary to do them in order to get an all around good leg work out?

I worked out legs today and it was an amazing work out; I did the following:

1.) 3 sets of Leg Press (230lbs + weight of rack)
2.) 3 sets of Weighted Lunges (35s in each hand)
    3.) 3 sets of Leg Ext (140lbs)
    4.) 3 sets of Leg Curls (50lbs)
    5.) 3 sets weighted calf raises (120lbs)

I was DEAD afterward; walking like a damn robot.

Are squats necessary? Should I substitute something for them or just try to add them in?

You don't "HAVE" to do anything, but squats kick ass. 90%+ of guys with massive legs that I have met do squats. Why not just drop the weight down and work on form until you feel comfortable upping the weight? If you hate em' don't do em', but if it's just because you're not used to them... well... uh... get used to them again! =]

Yea, you're probably right. I guess next week I'll give them a try on my leg work out; maybe I'll do some light weight this Friday during my circuit.

I guess the only reason I have them is because I'm not used to them like you said...

Squats are a compound movement and require a lot of stabalizers. Form is more important than weight, just keep that in mind to prevent injury, and to make sure you don't get fed up of squats because you're straining due to bad form. You'll find a comfortable groove and you'll know when it's time to up the poundage. Welcome to the dark side. =]

Thanks to squats I went from having a fatass to getting compliments of "nice ass!" from some very nice looking women.

I started out with just 115 lbs. too. I could probably do 200 or so, but I rather go greater than 90 degrees just to get more burn!!!

If you're not doing squats it's because you think they are too hard-what other reason would there be-unless you have a injury you're being a baby.
My brother and I were brutal. I once chased him around the house with a spoon that I put on the burner. I burned that little pricks leg. -sharkall2003

If you dont squat, deadlift, and bench then you're not lifting yet.
It turns out the answer to every question is still deadlift and eat.

I will agree with that. I didn't deadlift at all for the first 2 months, but when I started to deadlift, I improved in ALL areas of my training.

do dumbell squats. Grab a dumbell.. hang it between your legs and do squats. Blasts my quads all the time.

otherwise.. walking lunges, stationary lunges, step ups with dumbells are all great.

Yea, you're right. I'm def. gonna start doing squats next week.

I do deadlift and bench; I've just never done squats because I used to work out in my basement and I had no way to do them (no squat rack); well I had no "safe" way to do them.

Bench and deads I could do. That's the real reason why I haven't done squats yet while I've been at MU; I',m just not used to them and they aren't in my routine.

    Time to change that...

Ah yup; fo' sho. That's my favorite part about lifting; being able to eat an assload of food as long as I keep it pretty healthy.
