R hip pain after doing squats

After doing medium weight and low rep squats the next day i can hardly bend down to sit in a chair and walking even hurts in my R hip joint. It feels as if its the joint itself. The more i use it the pain eases up but as soon as i sleep it hits me.
Im using a Smith machine standing flat footed. If i do have a skeletol discrepency which routine would be less traumatic on the joint? Leg presses, lunges?

    thanks

I've had the same problem with my left hip. Last time it bothered me badly. I took a month off of heavy squatting and did box squats. So far I haven't had anymore problems with my hip.

But it just seems like a never ending cycle.

I would try free weight squats, and if it still hurts try another exercise. Leg press for example.

The problem is most likely coming from the Smith machine.

Not that it matters, but try doing free weight work.

    muscle or joint?

Thanks, I appreciate the input. The pain seems to originate around the joint at times often from the hip flexor? The front of the groin. Sometimes around near the piriformis-behind the joint and then sometimes deep in the joint.
Ive been having to take a friends pain med just to sleep since sleeping on that side is misery, but like i said once i get going it tends to ease up. Spinning on the bike is fine too.
Possible could I have been using one leg more than the other to cause this?

Ya, form plays a big role.

My hip was to the point where when I would squat my left hip would be a good 3 - 4 inches lower than my right so I finally said screw it and gave it some rest.
