    Weighted Dips

I have recently added bench dips to my routine but my body weight just isn't cutting it for resistance.

I am curious to see how others load themselves (no spotter) with weight other then using a dip belt. I have a dip belt but when I do dips from bench to bench there just isn't enough room below me to suspend the weights.

I have done that in the past but I am using too much weight now. I used 110lbs today and that was still too light.

You might be able to do them in a power rack with the pins set high enough to allow you to hang weights from your belt.
As long as you are not too short, you shouldn't have a problem reaching the pins, resting your feet on one pin while you grab the other pin and dip down.
Be careful getting up & down on the pins though.

It's a little tough stacking that many plates on your legs by yourself.

I am not sure what you mean by "real dips" ?

Not too sure if your trying to be smart or not so...

What he means is just a regular old dip, not off a bench or anything like that. The one where you hold yourself off the ground by your hands in the "dip station" and lower your entire body down and then doing your best to get back up again. The very first picture accurately portrays it. On these you'll be much higher from the ground so using the wieghted belt won't be much of a trouble and you don't need a spotter to put it on.

I wrote a sarcastic paragraph making fun of you, but decided you might actually be serious. So to answer your question - "real dips" are done off a dip station, not a bench.

I knew what you meant. I just take exception to people calling something "real" when in reality it's just a different form of the same exercise.

I have dip handles for my rack but I prefer bench to bench. It seems easier to isolate my tri's when my feet are up. I guess I will have to bite the bullet and do them the "real" way (LOL) if I want to use that much weight.

I saw a guy at the gym on Saturday who put a 45lb plate on his lap and then politely asked another person (i.e. a spotter) at the gym to set a 100lb dumbell on top of it when he was ready to go. Seemed to work and at my gym people are friendly enough to help like that.

I use a dip station and since I only need BW plus a little bit I just bring a backpack and fill it with 10lb weights.

Kinda like doing pushups off your knees VS off your toes. One's real, one's for girls. No offense to the ladies who do real pushups.

This isn't what I was describing if this is a reply to what I suggested.
    My description probably sucked. Sorry.
Pretend the saftey pins (the poles you can adjust) in your power-rack are 2 different benches. Elevate the pins high enough so you can hang weights on your belt.
Put your heels on one pin and grab the other like you would a bench with your hands. Dip down-
If you still don't follow me, or I'm not making any sense, just ignore.

I know exactly what you mean, it seems like a good idea. I will give it a try next time I work out.

    Thanks

    REAL (almost) Dips

Here is a "real" dip, though it is done assisted. But I hope you get the meaning.
