The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    dealing with injuries

I'm interested in your views on lifting while injured.

I have two injuries. A bum shoulder I hurt a few years ago. It finally felt OK then the general twinging pain came back. I think it's a rotator cuff. It doens't hurt much while lifting but then I'll do something simple like turning up the volume in my car and get a shooting pain. I hear rotator cuff injuries take a LONG time to heal.

I also hurt my knee playing racquetball more than 10 years ago. It's OK 95% of the time but then I'll just stand up wrong and it will be tweaked for a few weeks.

I've been laying low on lifting but I'm going crazy. I want to get back in the gym. My knee is weird, I can walk and be fine but then all of a sudden it hurts like crazy. I want to go work my legs!

How do you handle these types of injuries? Take some Advil and lift carefully or sit on the sidelines?

Get some therapy. Learn how to strengthen those areas. Don't train heavy if you are seriously injured. Get some ETS from AtLarge and start taking it. Seriously, it's the first thing that has ever helped decrease the pain in my shoulders.

Or you can do like Drew after his accident and shrivel to nothing and cry about your "poor widdle shoulder". Drew is such a wuss.
Out of the night that covers me,Black as the Pit from pole to pole,I thank whatever gods may be for my unconquerable soul. In The fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance my head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears looms but the horror of the shade And yet the menace of the years finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate how charged with punishments the scroll,I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

A Physiowhat? Never heard of that. Like a rehab person?

I wouldn't say the injuries are serious, although I've had both for a long time. I talked to the doctor about my shoulder two years ago and he said I could do rehab.

Here's the crappy part. Now I'm self employed and the cost would be HIGH for rehab. I know, I know, what is the cost of my health?

I'm headed to the gym. I'm gonna listen to my body and go lightly. Any other advice is appreciated.

It's not nice to make fun of other people's injuries dude.

It's not every day you get punched in the shoulder by a 4 year old and can just walk it off.....

I'm with you on this one drew...
