The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    DB vs. BB bench press

    Hi there,

Do you think going to DB benchpress from BB bench will help me increase in strength? At the moment i find my left arm lags serverly behind my right, and i think by isolating the movement to each arm it will help, in both terms of strength and form.
    Any ideas?

For example - today i couldnt complete any more than 3 reps on 70kg (155pounds) because my left wrist started to hurt. My right side was powering the bar up and could have done a lot more.

Go for it, I've always liked DBs better than BB. Greater range of motion and involvement of stabilizers is a good thing. I think it'll help you increase your strength.

I made good progress on DB bench. IT's a somewhat different movement. Might as well try it.

note: your workout weight with DB's will be significantly less than with the BB. Start out low and work your "weigh" into higher loads. Years ago, when I was topping out at around 180 for my working sets, I decided to do some db's and picked up the 90's. Big mistake.

Eating tons of food and drinking lots of Milk will help increase your strength. It does not matter what objects you are lifting for your movements. In the words of Anthony: "Gain 50 pounds."

What's a normal ratio for BB vs. DB weights?

If I can do 225 BB bench, how much weight should I do for DB?

I'm gonna have to cheat here; someone posted the answer I want to give in another thread. I forget who it was, so forgive me for lack of proper citation.

    Three words:

    Trial and Error

For 2 and a quarter I'd start with 90's and work your way up. Everyone is different, because the extent to which the stabilizers are trained will make a difference in DB presses.
