The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

i DON'T want the tricep horseshoe

is this genetics or is there a way to develop the lower portion of the lateral head? ive seen some people look like they have muscles that "buldge", for lack of a better term, all the way down to the tip of their elbow when relaxed. im going for thicker arms and not nessicarily defined.

and before anyone says anything about eating lol, i am eating every 3 hours and im bulking with my cals and getting 200g of protein a day.

The shape is determined by genetics. The size is determined by you. How cut it looks is determined by your body fat.

Yup. if you don't want to have visible muscles, drop the protein and replace it with crisco. There's no guaranteeing that the fat you gain will be covering your triceps though.

You know, a lot of people spend enormous amounts of time and effort to get rid of flab on the back of their arms. Why would you want this?

i was afraid it was gonna be genetics. just have to make the best of them then. i guess this leads to another question as too are there any tri exercises that would be more mass building? it feels to me that when i do pull downs compared to dips or cgbp the pulldowns seem to promote more definition. call me ******ed but thats what it feels like.

if heart attacked didnt run in my family i would try the crisco diet lol.

Anything you can only do 4 to 8 reps of going all out will make whatever muscles are involved want to grow, I believe.

As Anthony said, muscular definition is a function of bodyfat. If you want tight defined looking muscles, drop bodyfat. If you want nasty back arm flab that drapes over your elbow like some kind of jello tumor, then get fat.

the 3 heads of your triceps function as a unit. If they didn't, then it wouldn't be called a tricep. It would be 3 seperate muscles. Trying to target one over the others is as futile as trying to work your "inner chest".

Ouch. Sorry my year of membership doesn't equal your FIVE years of posting on this site. So if your such a super mod and you feel EVERYONE should read read read then why dont you limit the amount of questions or have all posts go through an approval process. This is the ONLY forum where people get emotional about questions that have been answered elsewhere on the site. Go have a cookie and deal with other shmucks that respond like a$$holes instead of my simple questions, reguardless of whether I have 7 days or 7 years of training under my belt. Forums are created for postings. If ALL information has been provided then compile it all, write a book, put it online and take the forums down.

    Fair?

Dude, relax, it was a joke. You asked to be called ******ed, I obliged.

I already answered your first question, but part of me thinks you don't understand the question yourself.

Anyway, to answer your second question: definition is a result of lowered body fat, which is a result of primarily proper dieting, which has little to do with what tricep exercise you use.

Eh sorry, day at work. Just found out my 42 year old uncle went into the hospital with a disected aorta. I never would have made that heart attack joke either in response to the crisco either. I found out afterwards.

I understand what everyone means but there are also a lot of people in the gym that ive just listened in on conversation they have about what exercises promote growth more than others. Just tryin to clear that up.

    Anyway, sorry for the outburst.

I'll let you know right now: going by heresay or anecdotal evidence is not the way to go. Do research of your own and don't worry about what other people are telling you. Look through forums and check our scientific research that looks un-biased to find the truth. For every piece of advice you hear in the gym there is someone touting the opposite as the truth.

Your triceps are going to look like whatever they're genetically destined to be. You can't control how they're going to look. You're going to have to live with whatever physique you achieve. Some people have uneven or mishapen pecs, some people have one arm longer than the other, yada yada yada....

Just live with whatever you can achieve and enjoy your hard-earned body.

Out of the night that covers me,Black as the Pit from pole to pole,I thank whatever gods may be for my unconquerable soul. In The fell clutch of circumstance I have not winced nor cried aloud. Under the bludgeonings of chance my head is bloody, but unbowed. Beyond this place of wrath and tears looms but the horror of the shade And yet the menace of the years finds, and shall find, me unafraid. It matters not how strait the gate how charged with punishments the scroll,I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

I think you could use this one post to answer 50% of the questions asked here.
Best way to cheat on deadlifts...

Stand there for a few minutes, then pace back and forth a lot, huff and puff, wait until everybody's looking. Approach the bar. Back off. Approach it again. Back off. Get some water. Chalk up. Approach the bar again. Then spray some more chalk around. Wait until people start losing interest. When nobody's looking, pick it a little off the floor, and slam it down. Jump up and yell "LIGHT WEIGHT BABY". Then give high fives all around. - Belial

My tris are growing nicely with Skull crushers and dips.

Heavy pushing exercises (my favorite for triceps is Dips) will work your triceps the best.

I must have really missed this, but why? Mine have a horseshoe and I would really like them to have much more of a horseshoe shape. That "shoe" on your arms is what says "this is pure muscle, not fat". It is what makes you look built versus chunky.

Why in the world would you want to go to extra effort to avoid that???
