The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Good luck with the routine.

I don't really have any advice on losing weight, but I will say I think 10-12 reps would be much better for you than going up to 15 reps.

The concept behind doing cardio is the same as ElPietro mentioned for weight lifting in the morning. No carbs for energy = burn fat/muscle instead. The thought behind Tryska, Hoots, Mons and mine of moving the cardio to the morning and lifting to the afternoon, is lifting isn't there to burn fat. It builds muscle, which does that goal, but the lifting itself doesn't burn too much of it.. That, and I find you need energy to get the best workout you can, which means your actually exhausting the muscle not just yourself.. But then, maybe you're a morning person.

What you eat before the workout -- something carb loaded about an hour before in my opinion - don't worry about protein until after it's done.

okay. somewhere along the way this thread got confusing.

    a. If you are taking all the protein shakes for conveninece sake, although it's not quite the same as real food, one does what one has to do. My concern is mastering eating "right" while you are trying to lose weight, so it's not too difficult to maintain down the line.

    b. strength training does in fact, give a higher caloric after-burn then cardio. Therefore it does make sense to do your strength-training in the morning. However, it is difficult to have an intense lifting session on an empty stomach. An intense lifting session apmlifies the amount of fat-burning, post workout. If you are going to do this, eat a meal composed of protein and fat, so that you are not battling insulin response, during and after.

    c. if you do choose to do morning cardio instead, you can do that on an empty stomach.

You don't necessarily need to do cardio on an empty stomach. Just make sure you're eating enough food to maintain muscle mass and doing enough exercise to be in a calorie deficit, so you can lose some fat.
