Isn't it great when you surprise yourself?

i had the best time in the gym this saturday i have had in a little while ( i always have a great time in the gym), there were 2 decently built guys in the gym maxing out on deadlifts( by their underarmor they thought they were huge), they were hitting 380 pounds, then they tried 400 and failed. i asked to work in, i started to grip the bar, breathe in and out a few quick times, make a few grunts( i think this is my max), and bang 405 out for 7 reps! then i did it 3 more sets, not even failing! i couldn't believe i was able to lift this weight.

    Boxing/ working out 5 days a week!
    6'1"- 230lbs-and bulking till i can't stand the mirror
Former fatass- whent from 302lbs to 207 lbs rippling 05-06
    bench 315
    deadlift 455
    squat 405
    big 3 total = 1175 lbs of RAW IRON!!!MUAHAHAHAHAHA

You think 405 is your max, but your max deadlift is 500 pounds?

Maybe he meant his max for multiple reps? Or he was saying it sarcastily, mocking the other two guys? Doesn't make much sense other than that....

That's awsome though man, what did the two guys say after you showed them up?

I have no doubt he wanted to brag...just trying to grasp how his max is 500, but he was surprised he could lift 405.

If he can deadlift 500 for a clean rep he should be able to do 8 reps of 450.

i was so curious to see what i could do that i hit 500 today. it hurt, but i got it. i have been lifting for hypertrophy for the last while, i hadn't thought that i'd of gained substantial strength from it, but i guess i must have. The guys were like, what is your max? i was like hmmmmm i'm not sure. the greatest part of it all is i barely worked my legs over the past 11 months, maybe doing leg day every other week, i don't understand why my legs are so strong(for me anyway).

Your legs support your whole body. They have to be strong.

LOL guys give him a break. He probably hadn't maxed out on deadlift for a long time and when he was able to do 405x7 he either approximated his max at 500lbs or later maxed out at 500lbs. Good job ArnoldsClone, keep up the work as it seems like you've had success with your cut as well as maintaining strength.

Your max deadlift is a quarter of a ton. Not too shabby.
Best way to cheat on deadlifts...

Stand there for a few minutes, then pace back and forth a lot, huff and puff, wait until everybody's looking. Approach the bar. Back off. Approach it again. Back off. Get some water. Chalk up. Approach the bar again. Then spray some more chalk around. Wait until people start losing interest. When nobody's looking, pick it a little off the floor, and slam it down. Jump up and yell "LIGHT WEIGHT BABY". Then give high fives all around. - Belial
