The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Its no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

    Wrist Pain with DB bench

I just started out with my routine and training almost 4 weeks ago, my db bench is currently at 70lbs in each hand 3 sets of 8. Last week, when using 65lbs my wrists didn't hurt at all. This week my wrists were killing me during the exercise, however they didn't hurt when I did decline on the next exercise, so thats good news, I only use 60lb DB's for that one. Do my wrists just need to get used to all this weight again, or are their things I should/can do to strengthen my wrists?

hmm, not sure, hopefully some others can help.

It is a good idea to get back into things gradually though, perhaps upping the weight at 8 reps is a little too quick seeing as you are either starting or getting back into things.

Why not wait till you hit a comfortable 12, before upping the weight for a few months?

Yeah just give your wrists a little time to catch back up. They won't be a problem for long.

Make sure your holding them right, and not bending your wrists back, or thats gonna hurt.

I use wrists wraps for my heavy pushing movements. They help keep my wrists "stiffer" during the lift, and helps make the balance much easier. When you first put them on your are like no way this will make a difference, but they do. You can find a decent pair at a drug store. If you have a weightlifting spully store, like Gym Source, you can get a pair more geared for weightlifting.

If I use wrist wraps, will I then always have to use them, because my wrists might not then get stronger because of the wraps?

Also what are the things called that wrap around your hand and around the DB, for things like shurgs where the weight feels like its going to slip out of my hand.

no, you won't always have to use them, they'll help a little with your lifts.

i used them only a couple of times when i was benching.
But, i also had a problem with my wrists and forearms so they did help a little.
