The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

How much does an empty hack squat sled weigh?

This is all I need to know. I was rather diappointed in myself, and I think the sled weighs a lot more than I expected.

Honestly I would think it depends on which company manufactures it. Try looking up the company that makes it sometime. I'd like to give a 'rough' ballpark number but I really don't know how much it weighs. It also needs to be taken into consideration that it isn't perpendicular to the ground (if you are thinking of what I'm thinking of).

Yes, it totally depends on the sled... Another reason to hate the leg press!
A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

I'm talking about the hack squat machine..not the leg press. I think you knew that, but I'm clarifying for the sake of clarifying.

It's made by cybex, and I don't see any problem with the sled being at an angle because the loaded plates won't be either. I just want to know that I'm not a total wuss for strugling to get 5 reps atf with 1pps yesterday. Granted, it was after 6 sets of SLDL, but still...1pps?

I googled it, and the entire machine weighs 650. How much of that is in the sled I cannot tell.

I've seen them weigh as much as 100 lbs. But I'm sure that will vary depending on the manufacturer.
Best way to cheat on deadlifts...

Stand there for a few minutes, then pace back and forth a lot, huff and puff, wait until everybody's looking. Approach the bar. Back off. Approach it again. Back off. Get some water. Chalk up. Approach the bar again. Then spray some more chalk around. Wait until people start losing interest. When nobody's looking, pick it a little off the floor, and slam it down. Jump up and yell "LIGHT WEIGHT BABY". Then give high fives all around. - Belial

Why does it matter what the sled weighs?

    Hint: it does not.

Because I expected to be able to be able to do more than I did, and I'm curious as to how much it weighs.

    Based on what?

The only thing a particular hack squat machine is comparable to is the exact same hack squat machine.

What matters more in a hack squat? the exact poundage, or getting a good leg workout?

    time's up!

On the newer lat pulldown machine at my gym, I can do 150lbs. On the older machine, I struggle at 120lbs.
pulleys are different, angle is probably different, parts aren't lubricated on the older machine...

Who cares?! I know where to set the pin on each, and then I go!

    and Teufelhund, that was hilarious!

Nash..you're trying to pick apart something simple, for the sake of picking it apart. I would expect as much though.

I'm curious how much pseudo-faux resistance the average hack squat sled puts on the user. I just want to know for my own peace of mind. I DO NOT intend to add that weight to the weight I list in my journal on WBB, or at home. I'm sure the differnece in brands isn't more than 30-40 pounds, and the difference in two difference machines of the same model would be pointless to consider.

The sled has weight. I just wanna know what that weight is, or what it claims to be on the user.

And yes, Malkore, I still got a good leg workout. Thanks for reminding me what's important.

Well I think the differences can be more than just 40lbs or so since each individual machine will have different amounts of friction, etc. and especially between different manufacturers since they can be at very different angles.

You should call cybex, it'd be nice to know how much it weighs.

i don't know how much it weighs but the hacksquat takes some getting used to. When I tried it for the first time I'd already been lifting for many years and I had to start out really light.

Oh come on, as long as you know how much you regularly squat then these strange machine squats shouldn't matter much.
