The Five Biggest Contradictions in Fitness

Itís no secret that when people contradict themselves, it has the effect of making the flaws in their actions or statements seem glaringly obvious. But what about when WE ourselves get caught contradicting ourselves by someone else?

Right on man! That's awesome. You've always got to be careful when going heavy that your form doesn't suffer.

315 is a big number! What's that like in comparison to your bodyweight?

Two 'sets' of one is what we call a 'max' around here. Anyway congratulations, was that without straps or chalk or wha?

    There's a difference between a "max" and a "single".
A child does not learn to squat from the top down. In other words, he does not suddenly make a conscious decision one day to squat. Actually, he is squatting one day and make the conscious decision to stand. Squatting precedes standing in the developmental sequence. This is the way a child's brain learns to use the body as the child develops movement patterns. Therefore, a child is probably crawling, rocks back into a squatting position with the back completely relaxed and the hips completely flexed, and stands when he has enough hip strength. This approach makes a lot of sense and can be applied to relearning the deep squat movement if it is lost. -Gray Cook

I hit a new best on deads last week. Did 305x5. Deads rock. In fact, I think I hit a new PR on every major lift last week while being leaner then ever. 305x5, 255x8 and 205x3. Sad but considering I don't eat I'm happy.

Keep deadlifting. Nothing like bloody shins while walking around the gym.

I hear that. I noticed my shin/knee area was bleeding yesterday during deads and I couldn't even feel it.

I think I'm going to try to max on squats today but I'm kinda scared. I'll have to make sure I have two spotters or so.

Just do them in a Power Cage. Set the catch pins where you want them and if you fail, you won't wind up in a hospital. I would never trust spotters on a squat...all it takes is one blown knee and they won't be catching that thing before it ****s you up royally.

My left leg is all scabbed up from deads Sunday.

On a side note, just squatted 5x285. I don't know what the hell is going on, but in the past 2 weeks all my lifts are going crazy.

We should just turn this into a thread where we all talk about how proud we are of our last maxes.

"W00t I did 385x5 the other day on deads... but I had to use straps so I'm trying to find good ways to work on my static grip. I will max out on squats today (multiple reps) and I already metioned that"
Edit: Oh yeah and yesterday was my first day in weeks where my diet was almost perfect.

    Okay who's next...

...yeah, I had two spotters actually. Everyone in the gym was staring and cheering me on. I barely locked out the 40 lb dumbell on my last Kickback, but my spotters where like "C'mon, man, you can pwn this!!!1" One day I hoe to do 100 lb Kickbacks, but I need to train my core some more for that.
